The price of wind power is rising
The European power price for Thursday dropped on the forecast of increased wind generation in the region and a fall in demand.
LSEG data show that the price of German baseload electricity for Thursday fell 8.4%, to 103.25 Euros ($111.36 per megawatt-hour (MWh), by 0921 GMT Wednesday.
The French power price for the day ahead fell by 25.3%, to 68 Euro/MWh.
Analyst Francisco Gaspar Machado of LSEG said that residual load in Germany is expected to decline day by day, while French and German nuclear capacity will increase.
LSEG data indicated that the German wind power production is expected rise by 4.2 gigawatts to 11.5 GW while French wind output is predicted to increase by 1.9 GW up to 4.5 GW.
The data revealed that solar power in Germany will increase by 290MW to 6GW.
The French nuclear capacity remained unchanged at 73%.
LSEG data shows that power consumption in Germany will fall by 110 MW next session, to 57.5 GW. In France, demand is expected to drop 860 MW at 46.6 GW.
The German power contract for 2025 increased by 2.1% to 68 euros/MWh, while the French baseload contract grew 1.7% at 88.70 Euros/MWh.
The European CO2 allowances in December 2024 increased by 2.8% to 63.95 Euros per metric ton.
Analysts at Energi Danmark said that European carbon prices dropped for a fifth consecutive session on Monday due to weak demand and technical signals that are bearish.
They added that it was unlikely prices would drop below 60 euros per ton. ($1 = $0.9272 euros) Reporting by Forrest Créllin Editing David Goodman
