Officials from the counter-terrorism department said that two militants who were involved in 2021, an attack in which nine Chinese engineers died, were killed in a shootout on Friday in a district in central Pakistan.

The militants, who were convicted and sentenced for life imprisonment, were moved from a prison located in Sahiwal District due to threats when some men attacked the van in which they were traveling.

It said that two of the five militants were killed by police in a crossfire with the attackers.

The two men were the masterminds behind the attack in which 13 people died, including nine Chinese engineers near a hydropwer in Dadu, in the northern Pakistan, in July 2021.

The main cities of Pakistan, and especially Islamabad are on high alert in preparation for the Shanghai Cooperation Conference, which will be held on the 15-16th October.
