Trelleborg Signs Framework Agreement with Statoil
Trelleborg’s offshore operation in Norway, signed a framework agreement with Statoil for the supply of Elastopipe, corrosion protection, Passive Fire Protection (PFP) as well as Thermal Insulation (Vikotherm R2, S1 and P7). The framework agreement is signed for six years.
Hans Leo Hals, Managing Director for Trelleborg’s offshore operation in Norway, commented: “We are very proud that Statoil has chosen to sign a framework agreement with us for our core products and solutions. Our proven technologies, leading materials and long experience have made us an important supplier in the oil and gas market, and we are looking forward to building our relations further with Statoil in a challenging, but yet exciting market. ”
Elastopipe is the first corrosion-free, explosion, impact and jet fire resistant flexible piping system. Typical applications are deluge and sprinkler systems, utility and drain water systems, nitrogen distribution systems and chemicals and hydrocarbon transportation. The system is made of synthetic rubber with a robust design that gives the system high tolerance to impact, jet fire (+2,552 °F / +1,400 ˚C for one hour), explosion and water hammer. It is lightweight, durable and easy to cut, fit and install – with no hot work. Elastopipe™ offers a 30-year minimum maintenance life, and its corrosion-free performance means system-testing frequency can be reduced to statutory requirements.
Passive Fire Protection solutions from Trelleborg’s offshore operation are protecting topside equipment and structures, provides time to evacuate people, close down critical equipment and for responders to gain control of the fire. Trelleborg’s PFP material FireStop can be used for different topside applications to ensure safety comes first. FireStop is non-corroding and can withstand jet fires with a heat flux of 390kW/m2, temperatures above +2552 °F / +1400 °C and flame speeds that exceed the speed of sound. This makes it an ideal material choice for use on offshore oil and gas installations and ships, as well as other hazardous environments.
Thermal Insulation (Vikotherm™ R2, S1 and P7) is necessary to avoid formation of hydrate plugs and wax build-up in subsea structures. Without thermal insulation the cold seawater rapidly cools down the oil, forming hydrate or wax blockages making it impossible for a safe flow. Trelleborg’s rubber-based material, Vikotherm™ R2, combines flexibility and robustness and gives protection for the lifespan of subsea installations. The three-layer coating system provides HISC/corrosion protection and excellent thermal insulation properties, with an operating temperature range from -49 °C to +155 °C / -56 °F to 311 °F and is suitable for hot wet applications up to +155 °C. Vikotherm™ S1 is based on advanced, non-syntactic silicone technology. The material does not rely on glass microspheres giving it improved joint strength, increased heat capacity, long-term flexibility and resistance to hydrostatic collapse. Operating temperature range from -40°C to +135°C / -40°F to 275°F. Vikotherm™ P7 is a non-mercury catalyzed solid polyurethane insulation system. The system is fully qualified to meet a complete range of applications and is not restricted by geometry or applied thickness. Operating temperature range from -40°C to +90°C / -40°F to +194°F.
