Total to add German Petrol Stations
French energy company Total is planning to expand its network of petrol stations in Germany, its chief executive told a German newspaper, adding this would happen either through openings or acquisitions.
"The expansion of the petrol station network is important to amortise the fixed costs," Patrick Pouyanne told the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).
"We earn just about 1 euro cent for every litre of petrol," he said, adding Total wanted to increase its market share to 10 percent by 2017 from 9 percent.
Total operates about 1,200 petrol stations in Germany, ranking it a distant third after Aral and Shell, FAZ said.
Pouyanne called for dialogue in the current spat between Moscow and the West.
Total's refinery in Leuna, Germany, uses Russian oil, Pouyanne said, adding the unit was performing well.
"Leuna, together with Antwerp, is our refinery with the highest return. We're investing there to increase value, above all with petrochemical products," he told FAZ. (Reporting by Christoph Steitz
