Membrane Integrity Onshore Tank Technology Included in NFPA

February 1, 2016

GTT, the world leader in the design of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), is pleased to announce that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has recently included the membrane containment tank system as one of the full integrity tank options in the 2016 edition of the NFPA code.

This amendment of the NFPA 59A Standard for the Production, Storage, and Handling of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) enters into force with an effective date of December 28th, 2015. The NFPA has published the amendment for the 2016 edition on its document info page and can be accessed here:  http://www.nfpa.org/assets/files/AboutTheCodes/59a/TIA_59a_16_1.pdf.

As a leading global LNG standard, NFPA has a broad application, not only in the United States, but also in South America, Africa, Middle East, and Asia Pacific.

While some countries are developing their own domestic regulations, the NFPA 59A remains the world leading standard, used as the main standard by oil and gas majors. The membrane technology has been included in the NFPA after extensive public review. Among others, most oil and gas majors supported the initiative.

This important milestone signifies that the membrane containment system is now globally recognized for application in onshore storage tanks for liquefied gases.
