Wartsila Bags Energy Storage Contract from ContourGlobal
Wartsila has won a 6 MW energy storage project contract for the Caribbean island of Bonaire from ContourGlobal Bonaire, a subsidiary of London based ContourGlobal.The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) hybrid energy project includes both the hardware, consisting of batteries and inverters, as well as GEMS, the energy management software from Greensmith Energy, a Wartsila company."The energy storage system will enable Bonaire, part of the Netherlands Antilles, to increase its use of renewable energy such as wind and solar.

The Switch is targeting growth of 200% within the marine segment in the next five years, building on the momentum of a flurry of recent orders, its acquisition of Wartsila Drives, and the financial muscle of its parent company, the EUR 3.3 billion turnover Yaskawa Electric Corporation. The Finnish headquartered business, a specialist in the development and supply of advanced drive train solutions, believes its permanent magnet (PM) and frequency converter technology can have the same transformational effect on marine as it has had in wind.
Finland's Wartsila Cuts 2016 Outlook
Finnish engineering company Wartsila warned on Wednesday its 2016 net sales and profitability would be lower than expected due to lower than anticipated power plant deliveries. The company said in a statement it expects net sales to decline by around 5 percent and its operating profit margin to be around 12 percent. Wartsila previously expected its net sales to grow by up to five percent and its profitability to be in range of 12.5 to 13.0 percent. Wartsila shares were down 2.8 percent at 1441 GMT. LNG Vessel with Wartsila Integrated Solutions Delivered to Evergas
The first in a series of 27,500 cbm 'Dragon' class vessels ordered by Evergas, a world renowned owner and operator of seaborne petrochemical and liquid gas transport vessels, is being delivered from the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China today. The vessel features a comprehensive Wärtsilä solutions package, including two Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines, Wärtsilä propulsion equipment including the gearbox, two Wärtsilä 20DF auxiliary generating sets, a Wärtsilä LNG fuel system and a Wärtsilä cargo handling system.
Wärtsilä to Begin Building LNG Terminal in January
Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä's order intake in December 2014.
Lafarge, Wartsila, IFC to Build Power Plant in Nigeria
Lafarge Africa, Finland's Wartsila and the World Bank's IFC have agreed to build a 220 megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plant in Nigeria to boost electricity supplies, they said on Wednesday. The trio said in a statement their plan was to help fast-track increased power supplies to the national grid and that they expected to provide more electricity to about 1.4 million households. Wärtsilä and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for manufacturing medium and large bore medium speed diesel and dual-fuel engines. The CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shanghai) Co. Ltd factory will be located at Lingang, Shanghai and is expected to have its first engine ready for delivery by the end of 2015. The company will in particular target the growing offshore and LNG markets, as well as the market for very large container vessels.
Internal Combustion Engines Have Edge on OCGTs: IEA
Internal combustion engines (ICEs) are a promising technology for supporting wind and solar energy, a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) finds, apprises Wärtsilä. Comparing different sources of flexibility for power systems, IEA says gas-fired ICE power plants are "very mature technology" and "cost-competitive to OCGTs" (Open Cycle Gas Turbines). Commenting on the alternative technologies, IEA notes that "growth in ICE plants actually exceeds that of turbine-based technologies". The findings were published in IEA's Energy Technology Perspectives 2014.
