Canada Environment Minister warns oil companies against retaining emissions data

Canada's Environment Minister warned Wednesday that oil companies who withheld data on emissions would be violating federal law. This was after Alberta's Premier said the province had considered measures to stop a proposed cap. Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta, said on Tuesday that her government will introduce a motion to the legislature to allow them to challenge Ottawa's proposed cap on oil and gas emissions. Alberta, Canada's largest oil and natural gas province, is also looking into other ways to undermine the cap should it become law.

New Solution Helps Meet Lifeboat Regs

The oil and gas industry has just 18 months to upgrade critical release hook systems on offshore lifeboats to meet new regulations imposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to improve safety at sea. According to the organization, the number of failures during drills and inspections which resulted in casualties or injured crew members has been unacceptably high. Launched in 2011, the IMO regulations state that lifeboat release and retrieval systems must be evaluated and replaced no later than July 1, 2019.

Western Nations Urge Calm at Libyan Port

Western countries including the United States, France and Britain said in a joint statement on Wednesday they were concerned by mounting tension around the Zueitina oil terminal in Libya. Washington, Paris, London and the governments of Germany, Spain and Italy urged a return to government control of all oil and gas installations and called on all parties "to abstain from any act of hostility and avoid all actions that could damage or disrupt energy infrastructure". Zueitina is one of three eastern oil ports blockaded by Libya's Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG).

Aker Solutions Wins Order at Zohr Offshore Gas Field

Aker Solutions won a contract to deliver its longest-ever umbilicals system at the Zohr offshore gas field in the Egyptian part of the Mediterranean Sea. The agreement with Petrobel in Egypt is worth more than NOK 1 billion and will be booked in the second quarter. It stipulates the delivery of 180 kilometers of steel tube umbilicals that will connect the Zohr subsea development to an offshore control platform. Petrobel, a joint venture between The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Eni, is responsible for the development and operations at Zohr.

Trelleborg Signs Framework Agreement with Statoil

Trelleborg’s offshore operation in Norway, signed a framework agreement with Statoil for the supply of Elastopipe, corrosion protection, Passive Fire Protection (PFP) as well as Thermal Insulation (Vikotherm R2, S1 and P7). The framework agreement is signed for six years. Xodus Secures New ZADCO Vibration Contract

Xodus Group has been awarded a contract for the vibration assessment and analysis on the oil train piping and structures for Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) at Zirku Island, 140km north-west of Abu Dhabi.
