They promoted themselves as a domestic employment engine that could help meet soaring demand for power, without mentioning its role in fighting climate change. The new policy agenda is a dramatic shift for the solar industry, which has been a major beneficiary from the Inflation Reduction Act, a landmark climate change law passed by President Joe Biden in 2022. Saudi Aramco Awards General Dynamics Offshore Security Contract
Saudi Aramco has awarded a contract to the local subsidiary of U.S. company General Dynamics as the state oil giant aims to increase security at its offshore facilities, Saudi Aramco said on Wednesday. Industry sources told Reuters in July the contract involves installing long-range integrated security systems at nine offshore sites in the Gulf. Apart from General Dynamics, Aramco received bids from other defence firms, including Raytheon Co of the United States, Germany's Rheinmetall AG, Leonardo's Selex ES Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Aramco to Set up Companies for Energy Industrial City
Saudi Aramco received the approval of the Saudi government to set up two new companies that will develop and operate a new Energy Industrial City in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom seeks to expand its industrial base, state news agency SPA reported on Monday. The city will be developed over 50-square km of land in the oil producing region, SPA said quoting a cabinet statement. An earlier report said the city will be close to Abqaiq and will develop energy-related industries.
Proserv Secures Multiple Middle East Contracts
Energy services company Proserv said it has been awarded a series of contracts worth a combined value of more than $11 million for its production control new-build and after-market services in the Middle East. In the UAE, Proserv will engineer and manufacture wellhead control panels, hydraulic power units (HPUs) and chemical injection systems to national oil companies, service companies and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies, estimated to be worth around $10 million.
ABB wins Indian power transmission link deal
ABB has teamed up with India’s national electricity grid operator Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) in a mega project worth over $640 million for ABB to deliver a transmission link that will have the capacity to bring reliable electricity to more than 80 million people. The Raigarh-Pugalur 800 kilovolt (kV) ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) system will connect Raigarh in Central India to Pugalur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The 1,830 kilometer (km) link will be among the longest in the world.
Saudi Aramco in Deals with Foreign Firms in Push for Local Content
State oil giant Saudi Aramco signed deals with several foreign companies as part of a drive to expand the kingdom's industrial base and manufacture a bigger share of products domestically. Deals include setting up joint ventures with U.S.-listed firms Rowan Companies and Nabors Industries to own, manage, and operate drilling rigs in Saudi Arabia. Aramco also signed agreements in local manufacturing development with Jubail Energy Services Company (JESCO) and ArcelorMittal in Jubail on the Gulf coast for tubes used in oil and gas production.

China Studies Floating Gas Plants for South China Sea
Chinese energy giant CNOOC Group is studying the possibility of building a multibillion-dollar floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel, as-yet untried technology that would likely be used to produce gas from the deep waters of the South China Sea. While the state-run company has made no public announcement, a pre-feasibility study was well under way, CNOOC and other industry officials said. CNOOC was already talking to global engineering firms about possible joint design of the vessel, two industry officials added.
