EUROPE GAS prices near a one-year high due to concerns about Russian supply and cold weather
The Dutch and British wholesale gas prices reached their highest intraday levels in almost a year on Thursday, amid concerns about Russian gas supply. Austrian energy group OMV said that an award of over $243 mln for irregular German gas supplies by Gazprom may impact its Gazprom gas supply agreement. The benchmark front-month contract for the Dutch TTF hub increased by 1.71 Euros at 45.38 euro per megawatt hour at 0903 GMT. This was its highest intraday value since November 27 last year. The Dutch day-ahead contracts added 1.72 Euros at 45.45 euro/MWh.
Equinor Energy Strikes Gas in Barents Sea
Norwegian multinational energy company Equinor Energy has made discovery containing up to 24billion cubic feet of gas in the Barents Sea. Two exploration targets were found, with the first containing between 10 and 20billion cubic feet, the other between one and four billion.The discovery’s profitability is currently unclear, said a statement from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD)."Equinor Energy AS has completed the drilling of wildcat well about 15 kilometres northwest of discovery well (Atlantis) and 370 kilometres north of Hammerfest.
Emerson Launches Salinity Measurement System
Emerson Automation Solutions launched the Roxar Salinity Measurement System for the sensitive, accurate and real-time measurement of saline water in gas production well streams at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston this week. Through the new system, operators can instantly identify changes in the flow stream and the smallest amounts of saline water at never previously achieved levels of sensitivity. This enables the operator to take immediate remedial action to prevent threats to production, such as scaling, hydrate formation and corrosion.
Ukraine Expects 18 pct Fall in Russian Gas Volume
Russia is expected to reduce its natural gas shipments via Ukraine by about 18 percent this year, according to Ukrainian gas transit monopoly Ukrtransgaz. "We had transit of 62 billion cubic metres (bcm), but this year it will be at 51 billion," the company's press service quoted chief Ihor Prokopiv as saying on Wednesday. Petrobras Maintains Gas & Oil Production
Petrobras announces that its total domestic oil and natural gas production in January 2015 was 2.661 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), averaging about the same as December of last year (2.675 million boed). The total domestic oil and natural gas production operated by Petrobras, including the share operated for its partner companies, was 2.910 million boed, averaging about the same as December 2014 (2.917 million boed). Katharina UGS Capacity Up 1.5 times
The third cavern of the Katharina underground gas storage (UGS) facility with the capacity of nearly 60 million cubic meters was commissioned in Bernburg. Thus, the facility’s aggregate working gas volume grew by 50 per cent and totaled some 170 million cubic meters. Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of the Katharina UGS facility commissioning. Banatski Dvor Facility Assures Gas Supplies
Gazprom has almost fully replenished the Banatski Dvor UGS facility. The facility's working gas volume currently makes up 450 million cubic meters.
