Nod for Nord Stream to use Finnish EEZ

Nord Stream 2 AG today received the Finnish Government’s consent for the use of the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline. The permit for a 374-kilometer offshore section running through the Finnish EEZ outside the country’s territorial waters was issued by the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

Gazprom Gets Nod to Build Nord Stream 2 Gasline

Finland has given its approval for the construction of Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline through Finland's economic zone, the government and Russian gas exporter Gazprom said on Thursday. "On 5 April 2018, the Finnish Government gave its consent to the Nord Stream 2 AG's gas pipeline construction project in respect of the section that passes through Finland's exclusive economic zone," the government said in a statement on its website.

Green Energy Share in Finnish Power to Hit High in 2018

The share of renewable energy in Finland's power output is set to reach a new high in 2018, backed by new wind farms, but doubts over future government subsidies mean the trend is unlikely to continue, the head of the state-owned grid said. Green energy accounted for a record 47 percent of Finland's power in 2017, however, Helsinki is considering scrapping much-criticised subsidies, Fingrid chief executive Jukka Ruusunen told Reuters in an interview.

Finland's Stake in Neste Drops Below 50 pct

The Finnish government on Thursday donated shares in oil refiner and renewable diesel producer Neste to a Finnish foundation that promotes the wellbeing of children, effectively relinquishing its controlling position in the company. The move, in which the state gave away shares worth around 50 million euros ($60 million), lowered the state's stake in Neste from 50.1 percent to 49.7 percent, the government said in a statement.

Finland and Estonia to Start Gas Pipeline Planning

The European Commission, Finland and Estonia signed a deal on Tuesday to start planning for a gas pipeline between the two countries, the Finnish government said. Areva-Siemens Raises Claim Over Finnish Reactor Delays

The French-German consortium Areva-Siemens , the supplier of Finland's much-delayed Olkiluoto-3 nuclear reactor, has increased its claim against Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), TVO said late on Friday. TVO and Areva have traded accusations about who is to blame for delays and extra costs, and the International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) arbitration court is processing a dispute on cost overruns between the two sides.

Skangass Builds LNG Terminal in Pori, Finland

With investment support from the Finnish Government of 185 million NOK Skangass has decided to build a new import terminal for LNG. The terminal will be completed in 2016. Skangass plans to create an efficient LNG logistics chain in the Pori area. When the terminal is ready in Autumn 2016 it will have a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters. Skangass has already selected the main contractor and suppliers for the project.

Finland Grants Support to Three Small LNG Terminals

The Finnish government granted 65.2 million euros (84.22 million US dollar) in subsidies to build three small liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals to cut on use of fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in industry, the economy ministry said on Thursday. Finland is building a network of LNG terminals along its coastline, expecting that LNG will be increasingly used as a shipping fuel in the Baltic Sea.

Finnish-Russian Nuclear Project at Risk

The crisis in Ukraine has made it difficult for Finnish-Russian venture Fennovoima to recruit new investors for its nuclear reactor project in western Finland, the head of its Finnish owners told the Tekniikka&Talous weekly. The Finnish government has instructed Fennovoima, owned by around 40 Finnish companies and Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom, to increase local ownership after several investors pulled out of the 4-6 billion euro ($5.3-8 billion) project.

Finland and Estonia will have to return to the drawing board with a joint gas terminal project after the European Commission said a proposed two-terminal model would not be eligible for subsidies, the Finnish government said.
