Siemens Enhances Digital Coriolis Flow Portfolio

To extend the numerous process-optimizing advantages of the digital Coriolis flowmeter platform to low-flow applications such as batching, dosing and filling of both liquids and gases, the Sitrans FCT030 and FCT010 digital transmitters can now be paired with the Sitrans F C MASS 2100 and Sitrans FC300 Coriolis sensors for small line sizes from DI 1.5 to DN 15. With this major enhancement to the product line, a broad range of users from chemical to automotive applications can benefit from market-leading mass flow accuracy of 0.1%, density accuracy of 0.5 kg/m3 and 100 Hz signal processing.

U.S. Ethanol Makers Ease Away From Fuel

A U.S. glut of fuel-grade ethanol has major producers, including Green Plains Inc and industry pioneer Archer Daniels Midland Co, pursuing other markets and idling excess capacity in an effort to rebuild sagging margins. ADM and Green Plains both said on Tuesday they are converting fuel-ethanol capacity into beverage and industrial alcohol production, as well as idling some mills. The announcements follow Pacific Ethanol's decision in June to buy a beverage-grade facility in Illinois, a diversification away from fuel ethanol.

7-Eleven to Buy Sunoco's U.S. Stores

Seven & i unit to buy 1,108 stores in Texas, other states; Sunoco deal is the biggest for 7-Eleven. Seven & i Holdings Co on Thursday said it would buy convenience stores and petrol stations from Texas-based Sunoco LP for about $3.3 billion, as the Japanese retailer closes in on its goal to reach 10,000 North American outlets. The operator of the 7-Eleven chain of convenience stores has been aggressively opening stores in Japan as well as the United States, where it has been acquiring stores from local retailers.

Shell Sells 185 UK Service Stations

Shell UK has accepted offers for the sale of 185 company-owned service stations to selected independent dealers and has exchanged contracts for 158 of these service stations. Through this transaction, Shell welcomes Motor Fuel Group (MFG) as a Shell dealer and strengthens its relationship with Euro Garages. It is anticipated that contracts for the remaining service stations will be exchanged in the coming weeks. The 185 service stations are spread across Great Britain and will retain the Shell brand.

Offshore: Modern Crewboat Delivered to Brazil Supply

Fast, capable crewboat design and construction continues to be a leading edge niche in the global marine market, the latest manifestation being the BS Camburi, a 36-meter monohull crewboat built in Brazil by Arpoador Engenharia to the Petrobras type P2 specification, for Brazil Supply. Incat Crowther designed the boat. The vessel’s aft main deck features a large open deck, separated for two main purposes. The aft portion, measuring 60.5m2, is dedicated to a man-riding basket. The forward portion, measuring 28 sq. m., is dedicated to cargo, with large cargo rails offering heavy duty protection.

Pentair Reports 3Q 2014 Sales of $1.8 bi

Pentair plc today announced third quarter 2014 sales of $1.8 billion. Sales were up 3 percent compared to sales for the same period last year. Third quarter 2014 earnings per diluted share from continuing operations ("EPS") were $1.00, up 22 percent from adjusted EPS of $0.82 in the third quarter of last year. On a GAAP basis, the company reported EPS of $0.81 in the third quarter of 2013. Adjusted EPS and operating income exclude repositioning costs, acquisition and redomicile-related expenses, gain/loss on sale of a business and certain tax items.

Kellogg: Targets for Suppliers Carbon Cuts Set

Global food giant Kellogg's will set targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its worldwide supply chain, it announced Wednesday, responding to consumer pressure to be accountable for its contribution to climate change. The maker of popular cereal Corn Flakes and potato chips Pringles announced a series of new climate policy measures, including targets to be set by December 2015 that would be consistent with a global effort aimed at preventing average temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celcius.

US Top Court Trims Obama's Emissions Bid

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday trimmed the Obama administration's power to curb greenhouse gases under a long-running air pollution program in a decision that means major facilities, including power plants and refineries, will go on being regulated as they have been. On a 7-2 vote, the court rejected an industry-backed argument that most emitting facilities should not be regulated for greenhouse gases under one particular air pollution program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

French foreign minister meets Raul Castro on historic visit to Cuba

France's foreign minister met with Cuban President Raul Castro on Saturday during the first visit to the island by such a high-ranking French official in 31 years and a sign of the quickening pace of improving ties between the European Union and Havana.
