Ecke is GM of DEA Egypt

The new General Manager for Egypt is Dr Hans-Hermann Ecke, who is responsible for the business of the Egyptian subsidiary of DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG based in Cairo since the beginning of March.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming tasks in Egypt, where DEA has already been part of the oil and gas industry for more than 40 years,” says Dr Hans-Hermann Ecke. “With our Disouq natural gas project, we have recently been able to more than double our oil and gas production in Egypt. Being the operator, we are working intensively on the further development of this project.”

Dr Hans-Hermann Ecke has a PHD in geology. He is well  experienced in Egypt‘s upstream industry and DEA Egypt’s E&P projects from his earlier employment as General Manager in the period from 2009 to 2011. In the years followed, he headed the New Ventures department as Senior Vice President at DEA headquarters in Hamburg. Ecke was also posted to Cairo as Exploration Manager and Deputy General Manager from 2001 to 2005. Ecke has been employed in various positions at DEA since 1986.

One important task for Dr Ecke is the upcoming realisation of the West Nile Delta project. DEA is a partner in developing the 5 trillion cubic feet of gas resources. The total investment volumes of the project partners amount to around 12 billion US Dollars.

“This project is an exciting challenge. The start of production is planned for 2017. Until then the project will be connected to existing infrastructure,” states Dr Ecke. “The West Nile Delta development is considered as of prime importance for Egypt’s energy sector. It is expected to increase the daily Gas production in Egypt by approx. 25 per cent,” he added. DEA holds a 40 per cent share in the concession North Alexandria and a 20 per cent share in West Mediterranean Deepwater. Operator and owner of the remaining shares is BP.
