Washington has revoked Repsol's license to operate in Venezuela

A company spokesperson announced on Monday that U.S. officials had notified Repsol of the revocation of its license to import oil from Venezuela. Meanwhile, Spain's Foreign Minister promised to protect Repsol's interest.

The spokesperson for President Donald Trump said that the administration of Repsol told the company it had until the 27th of May to end its operations in South America.

The U.S. government informed Italian companies that they were no longer authorized to operate in Venezuela.

Albares told Tele 5 that he had spoken to the CEO of Repsol and they were discussing and analysing their decision.

He said: "We shouldn't rush until we have all the information about this decision. We need to know what it means, how it will affect us and whether there is a room for dialogue in order to resolve the issue.

Trump announced last week that countries buying oil and gas from Venezuela would be charged a 25% tariff for trade with the United States.

The previous administration allowed individual companies to purchase Venezuelan oil for use in refineries across the globe, from Spain to India.

Reliance Industries in India and U.S. Global Oil Terminals are also among the companies who have received comfort letters and licenses from Washington. Global Oil Terminals.
