Texas gas plant rejected from state funding program

September 5, 2024

Texas energy regulators denied funding requests for an electric power plant project, despite the fact that it was named as a finalist in a state program to build out natural gas-fired generation of electricity.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas rejected late Wednesday the application by Aegle Power for funding from the state for a 1.3 Gigawatt natural-gas plant. The commission stated that the application "failed due diligence requirements."

Aegle Power was not available for immediate comment.

In the application, it was stated that this project is a joint venture between Aegle Power Inc. and NextEra Energy Resources. The PUTC announced that last week the plant had been selected as one of a few projects that will be advancing towards securing government funding through the newly established Texas Energy Fund.

A NextEra representative, however, wrote a letter to the PUTC Monday saying that NextEra had not been informed of or consented to be listed as a project applicant with Aegle.

NextEra wrote in a letter that it was not requesting funding through the TEF Program and is not involved in the project named by NextEra. It also requested to be removed immediately from the PUCT records for sponsoring the Aegle Power Project.
