Steel Cutting of Petronas Floating LNG2
PETRONAS achieved another milestone with the official steel cutting of its second floating liquefied natural gas facility, the PETRONAS Floating LNG2 (PFLNG2) in a ceremony held on 11 June 2015 at the Samsung Heavy Industries (010140.KS) (SHI) Shipyard in Geoje Island, South Korea.
The PETRONAS delegation was headed by Senior Vice President & Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC), Dr. Colin Wong Hee Huing who was accompanied by Vice President & Venture Director of LNG Projects – Domestic, Datuk Abdullah Karim and Vice President of Technology & Engineering, En. Zakaria Kasah.
“PETRONAS made a bold decision in January 2014 to make its Final Investment Decision (FID) for the PFLNG2 project. The expectation is for PFLNG2 to embark on a technology solution to monetize a wider range of stranded gas fields when it is commissioned in 2018,” said Datuk Abdullah Karim.
The momentous occasion was celebrated with the Chairman Emeritus of JGC Group, Mr. Yoshihiro Shigehisa and President & Chief Executive Officer of SHI, Mr. Dae-Young Park representing the consortium awarded with the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of PFLNG2.
“We are honored that with the successful delivery of PFLNG2, we will be making yet another contribution to PETRONAS and their offshore development strategy,” said Mr. Yoshihiro.
In his speech, Mr. Park added, “I am confident that we can deliver the FLNG on time with top global safety and quality standard. With world-class shipbuilding and offshore construction expertise, I assure that we can overcome any challenges during the construction through mutual cooperation.”
The steel cutting signifies the beginning of a mega construction phase of the hull and topsides of the PFLNG2 with a collective weight of 152,000 tonnage.
The second floating LNG facility for PETRONAS will make possible the liquefaction, production and offloading processing of natural gas in the Rotan field, 130 kilometers offshore Sabah. PFLNG2 with a capacity of 1.5 mtpa and designed for deep-water is expected to commission in 2018.
PETRONAS is committed to preserving its reputation as a preferred LNG supplier, distinct for its quality and reliability.
