Norway's Statoil (STO) will drill about the same number of exploration wells off Norway next year compared with this year, a senior company executive told Reuters on Thursday.
"It is about the same level, I think it was 16 wells operated by Statoil this year and six operated by partners by the end of this year. It is in that magnitude," said Arne Sigve Nylund, Statoil's head of development and production for Norway, on the margin of an oil conference.
Nylund also said he was "very optimistic" about the firm's efforts to make the development of its flagship Arctic Johan Castberg field, more cost-effective. Italy's Eni is a partner.
