Siemens Energy resumes the sale of its 4.X onshore turbine

September 5, 2024

Siemens Energy has announced that it has resumed the sales of the 4.X wind turbine which was at the center of its largest corporate crisis. This is a sign of the German energy group's full return to the onshore markets.

A spokesperson for Siemens Energy responded to a question by saying that sales of the turbines in trouble have resumed, but will be limited to certain markets. She did not provide any further details.

According to people familiar with the situation, Siemens Energy accepts non-binding as well as binding offers for its platform. Initial sales will be concentrated in Southern Europe.

Siemens Energy had previously stated that sales of the turbine model would resume by September's end.

The 4.X and the 5.X models were at the center of a quality problem last year that caused the stock price to plummet. It was forced to set aside 1,6 billion euros ($1.8billion) to fix it.

The sales of these models were stopped.

Sources said that Siemens Energy's Siemens Gamesa wind business had conducted a root-cause analysis of the issues with quality. They added that certain customers had been informed about the resumption of sales.

Siemens Energy confirmed an earlier date and said that sales of the 5.X model turbine are expected to resume by 2025. $1 = 0.9025 Euros (Reporting and editing by Alexander Smith; Christoph Steitz)
