Rosneft denies reports that 'evil Sechin’ plans to takeover Russian oil giants

November 12, 2024

Rosneft is Russia's largest oil company. It denied any reports that it was planning to take over a large chunk of the Russian Oil Sector. They said these reports were an attempt to portray its CEO, Igor Sechin as a bad influence.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Russia's plans to merge Rosneft with Gazprom, Lukoil and Lukoil. This would result in one of the most powerful oil companies in the world.

Rosneft released a statement regarding the reports, which it called "false-flags". The company said that the reports portrayed CEO Sechin as the "Evil Sechin", and falsely implied "Igor Sechin’s insidious intents".

Rosneft stated that the alleged intentions had nothing to do "with reality" and were not based on "any reasonable logic of business".

Sechin is fluent in French and Portuguese and has worked with Vladimir Putin for years, both before and after he became president.

Sechin, one of the most powerful men within Russia's vast energy industry, has been CEO of Rosneft (Russian Oil Company) since May 2012.

During his tenure, Rosneft became the largest publicly listed oil company in terms of volume before Saudi Aramco entered public markets for the first time in 2019. It accounts for about 4% global oil production. (Reporting and editing by Guy Faulconbridge).
