Petrobras wants to increase the output of Tupi oilfield to 1 million barrels per day by 2027
Petrobras, the state-owned firm in Brazil, plans to increase oil production from its Tupi oilfield to 1,000,000 barrels per day (bbls) by 2027. It plans new investments to be made into this asset.
Tupi, located in deep water offshore, is Brazil's biggest oil field by production (832,600 bpd), although its output has declined over the last few years.
Director Sylvia dos Anjos told in an interview that Petrobras wants to return Tupi production to 1,000,000 bpd.
She added that Petrobras plans to increase production at the field by drilling more wells.
Even if all goes according to plan, dos Anjos believes that Tupi will lose its crown of Brazil's biggest field to Buzios - another deepwater giant.
ANP data shows that Buzios produces 605,600 bpd.
Dos Anjos stated that Buzios would surpass a production rate of 1 million barrels equivalent per day (boepd), in the second half 2025.
Dos Anjos stated that Petrobras will drill 25 new wells next year in the Campos basin to search for new oil and natural gas discoveries. It also plans to conduct a new drilling campaign to complement its existing Santos basin drilling.
She said that Petrobras is expecting to increase its gas production by approximately 3 million cubic metres per day after reopening two wells on the Roncador Field. (Reporting and writing by Rodrigo Viga Gaier, Editing by Aida Pelaez-Fernandez & Marguerita Chy).
