Petrobras to present POAG at World Gas Conference

May 31, 2015

Between June 1 and 5, Petrobras will take part in the 2015 World Gas Conference, the most important global event in the natural gas sector. At the 26th edition of the event, in Paris, the company will present the Gas Usage Optimization Program (POAG), including papers on the perspectives for natural gas in Brazil and neighboring countries, and technological innovations in the fertilizing sector. Company representatives will also preside over five panel discussion sessions.

Petrobras’ Gas Usage Optimization Program (POAG 2015), which has significantly reduced the flaring of natural gas in the company’s exploration and production (E&P) activities, despite growing production, will be one of the topics presented at the event, on June 5, at 11:20 am, by Vitor de Souza Lima, E&P area coordinator. During his talk, called “The reduction of gas flaring at Petrobras,” he will discuss the company’s gas usage rate, which has recently achieved new records, putting Brazil among the countries that best harness this resource in the E&P area. In February of this year, Petrobras used 96.5% of the gas it produced in Brazil.

The balance between gas supply and demand in the Southern Cone region will be discussed by two Petrobras executives, Gisele Mello Senra Rodrigues, Gas and Electricity area consultant, and Gisela Andrade de Oliveira, International area administrator. This thematic session, called “Strategy and Regulation,” will take place on June 3, at 5:00 pm. The subjects to be presented include the increased security of gas supply in the Southern Cone, due to planned investments in Brazilian pre-salt and unconventional gas in Argentina, and new developments in Bolivia.

Fiscal regimes – Marcos de Freitas Sugaya, a member of the International Gas Union (IGU), the organization responsible for the event, and a consultant in Petrobras’ E&P area, will preside over the “Fiscal regimes for the production of conventional and unconventional gas” discussion session on June 3, at 5:00 pm. During this session, Sugaya will also present the results obtained by the study group he has led for the last three years. This team, composed of professionals from several countries, has identified best practices to encourage natural gas production after analyzing the most important tax regimes in the world. He will also lead another panel discussion session, called “Gas on gas competition and upstream investment” on the same day, at 8:30 am, which will examine the product’s pricing mechanisms.

The combination of technological innovations and best practices in the fertilizer production area will be highlighted by Cristiane Lodi, coordinator of Petrobras’ Gas and Electricity area. This session, called “Additional Uses for Gas,” will take place on June 3, from 1:50 pm to 2:35 pm. The company’s operational experience in fertilizer production has resulted in plant designs with among the lowest power consumption in the world.

Panel discussions involving Petrobras – Five of the conference’s panel discussions will be led by Petrobras representatives. In addition to those mediated by Sugaya, Petrobras’ general manager for E&P Performance Control and Evaluation, Denis Krambeck Dinelli, will preside over three others: the first, about reducing natural gas flaring, alongside the manager of the World Bank’s Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR), Bjorn Hamso, on June 2, at 3:15 pm; and the second, about unconventional gas, alongside Jason Bordoff, the Energy Secretary in president Barack Obama’s first administration, on June 3, at 3:00 pm. Dinelli will also lead a discussion called “Natural gas available everywhere: an assessment of global resources and reserves,” to be held on June 4, at 5:15 pm.
