December 19, 2024

Antamina is the second largest copper mine in Peru. It announced on Thursday that Adolfo Héren was appointed as its new CEO and General Manager.

Heeren will take over the role of CEO for Anglo American Peru on February 1, 2025. Victor Gobitz Colchado is leaving his position due to personal reasons.

Heeren, who is controlled by Glencore BHP Teck and Mitsubishi, will oversee the optimization process of Antamina's mine, as well as projects aimed at solving operational challenges.

According to the Mines and Energy Ministry, data shows that this mine, which produced 467,905 tons of copper in 2022, has now fallen to second place. The mine's production is expected to be the same as last year, at 435,378 tons.

Antamina announced in May that it was close to starting work on the $2 billion delayed project, which will extend the life of the mine to 2036 from the current 2028.
