Moscow claims that the EU has lost its mind over increased military aid to Ukraine
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the European Union has "lost their mind" and is heading towards ruin by providing additional military aid to Ukraine.
According to a letter from the German finance ministry, Germany will approve an additional 400 million euros ($450 millions) of military aid for Ukraine to help it fight Russia.
These funds will be added to the 8 billion euro budget for Ukraine in 2024.
The European Commission's Ursula von der Leyen, President of the Commission, said that on Thursday 160 million euros (179 million dollars) from frozen Russian assets would be diverted for Ukraine's urgent needs this winter.
Von der Leyen stated that Russia destroyed about 9 gigawatts of Ukraine's power infrastructure. This is the equivalent of three Baltic States.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, repeated the claim that the EU had lost its autonomy and was subservient Washington's objectives. She said that Brussels was losing any authority in this process.
Zakharova stated that "the EU has now lost its head and paralysed it will to continue a confrontational and suicidal course for the EU." "It's a path of increasing tensions with Russia."
Euroclear, the Belgian securities depository, holds most of these assets in Europe.
Zakharova stated that "they steal everything" - real estates, movable assets, and sovereign assets. "The laundering (of this) illegally acquired property is happening right before our very eyes. They will launder the money by purchasing weapons for Ukraine." Reporting by Dmitry Antonov, Writing by Alexander Marrow, Editing by Angus MacSwan.
