On Monday, expect a higher German wind output

February 21, 2025

German and French power prices were not traded on Friday for the Monday. German wind power is expected to increase against a decline in average demand across the region.

LSEG data shows that the German and French baseload power prices for Monday were not traded by 0934 GMT.

LSEG data indicated that the German wind output is expected to increase by 4.7 gigawatts to 27.1 GW while French output is projected to drop by 1.4 GW at 9.3 GW.

The French nuclear capacity remained at 80%.

The French power giant EDF announced a decline in its annual core earnings Friday. This was due to lower electricity prices, despite higher power production from its nuclear fleet.

LSEG data shows that power consumption in France will fall by 2.0 GW Monday to 54.3 GW. In Germany, demand is expected to drop by 1.4 GW at 60.8 GW.

The German power contract for the year ahead rose 1.9%, to 89.0 Euros ($92.47), while French 2025 baseload contracts had not yet begun trading.

The benchmark contract on the European carbon markets gained 2.5%, to 74.45 Euros per metric ton.

Analysts at Energi Danmark said that this indicates a recovery, after prices continued to fall and closed on Thursday at their lowest level since early January, due to a combination of declining gas prices, geopolitics, and milder forecasts.
