Invaluable Decommissioning Sessions Continue

North Sea decommissioning will undoubtedly have an impact upon operators and suppliers alike. What is not so widely understood is the sheer scale of opportunity that will arise from the decommissioning phase, and how companies can plan to make the most of those opportunities as they arise.

The purpose of Decom North Sea (DNS) is to enable and facilitate operators, the supply chain and other stakeholders to collaborate, innovate and thus develop efficient solutions for offshore asset decommissioning.

In addition to a comprehensive calendar of events and conferences, DNS hosts regular Lunch and Learn sessions throughout the UK, giving members and non-members from across the UK and Europe the opportunity to hear about developments whilst networking with key players from the decommissioning sector.

The next Lunch and Learn takes place on Wednesday 17 September, at Doubletree by Hilton, Aberdeen from 12 – 2pm and will include presentations from Pastoor Offshore, Sky-Futures and Spartan Solutions.

James Harrison, commercial director at Sky-Futures explains why the specialist provider of unmanned aircraft systems is looking forward to speaking at this event: “As decommissioning in the North Sea increases, the challenges must be met by innovative and collaborative solutions, which meet the demands of safety standards, and costs-effectiveness for oil companies.

“Aberdeen has the potential to become the global decommissioning centre of excellence. We see the value of exploring new and revolutionary technology and techniques which will help companies decommission safely, quickly and cost-effectively. DNS is the premier, forward-looking decommissioning organisation and Sky-Futures is delighted to share with members the benefits they can gain from utilising revolutionary inspection techniques.”

Speakers at DNS Lunch and Learn sessions are always keen to share with the audience their vision for the future of the decommissioning industry.  Thought-provoking and informative, they also give members the opportunity to come together on a regular basis to discuss the sector, learn from one another and explore the opportunities for collaboration. This ethos of co-operation is well demonstrated by a recent Lunch and Learn information session presented by an environmental consultancy. Keen to engage with DNS to promote debate and new thinking on matters such as EIA consultation, they shared lessons learnt from other sectors and regions to show how this process can become more efficient and effective for the decommissioning sector.

DNS chief executive, Nigel Jenkins looks forward to welcoming attendees from across the UK and Europe to the Lunch and Learn: “The pace and activity of North Sea decommissioning is rapidly increasing. I would urge those with an interest in decommissioning to attend these insightful events ensuring access to relevant real time market information and build a valuable network of contacts within the oil and gas industry and beyond.”
