Fire Shuts Two Petrochina and Pertamina Oil Wells in Indonesia

Posted by May 27, 2014

A fire that broke out during routine maintenance of several oil wells operated by Petrochina (PCCYF) and Pertamina in East Java, Indonesia, on Tuesday has shut down 4,000 barrels per day of crude production, the country's oil and gas regulator (SKKMigas) said.

"(Two) wells were shut down," SKKMigas chief Johannes Widjonarko told Reuters by text message on Tuesday.

The wells are expected to take at least five days to repair but the shutdown has not affected other wells in the area, Widjonarko added.

The Pertamina Petrochina East Java field was producing 25,477 bpd before the shutdowns, he said.
