EPA Award for Pentair

April 7, 2015

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Pentair (PNR)'s Aquatic Systems with a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products and educating consumers about energy efficiency. Pentair's accomplishments will be recognized in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2015.

Pentair, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2013 is being honored for its leadership in manufacturing products that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency.

This is Pentair's second consecutive Partner of the Year award. In order for pool pumps to earn the ENERGY STAR certification, the pool pumps must be at least 30-72 percent more energy efficient than typical pumps. In 2014, all Pentair variable speed pump models and two-speed models earned ENERGY STAR certification. Currently, 57 Pentair pool pump models carry the ENERGY STAR. This represents more than half of all certified ENERGY STAR pumps available on the market.

"At Pentair, we are committed to innovative technologies to maximize energy efficiencies," said Karl R. Frykman, President, Water Quality Systems, Pentair. "As a global leader in the pool and spa industry, we have made it our charge to deliver energy-efficient products to help our customers to reduce their energy consumption while enjoying their pools. We were the first manufacturer to introduce variable speed technology to the pool industry and the first to gain ENERGY STAR certification for pool pumps."

Frykman added, "In addition to manufacturing energy-efficient products, we work to educate our customers about energy consumption through our Energy Initiative Program that shares pool energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR benefits at utility and energy conferences throughout the U.S. We also deployed more than 100 demonstration units to stores across the country, allowing customers to test drive this technology and learn more about variable speed pool pumps and the benefits of purchasing ENERGY STAR certified products."

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

"Pentair's ENERGY STAR-certified products are helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "Pentair's efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

ENERGY STAR has 16,000 partners working to protect the environment through greater energy efficiency, including manufacturers, retailers, public schools, hospitals, real estate companies, and home builders.
