World's Largest Wind Turbines Installed off UK Coast

Dong Energy has installed the first of the world's largest wind turbines, which are taller and wider than the London Eye, at its Burbo Bank windfarm off the coast of Britain in the Irish Sea, it said on Thursday. The 32 turbines, made by Vestas, will each be able to generate 8 megawatts (MW) of electricity, stand 195 metres tall from sea level and have a rotor diameter of 164 metres.

Dong Energy to Build UK Offshore Wind Farm

DONG Energy will build the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm in Britain, which should be the world's largest when it is completed, the Danish energy company said on Wednesday. The 1.2-gigawatt wind farm off the Yorkshire coast should be fully commissioned by 2020 and will meet the electricity demands of more than one million homes in Britain, DONG Energy said in a statement.

Plough Clears 33 Routes on DONG Energy Wind Farm

Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) has completed a major boulder clearance and seabed preparation campaign on behalf of DONG Energy. The subsea engineering specialist ESS said it has cleared almost 50,000 boulders and other obstructions from 33 routes spread over a distance of 40 kilometers at the Westermost Rough wind farm, located eight kilometers off the Yorkshire coast.

SMC to Provide Marine Coordination for Siemens

Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC) have been working with Siemens, providing offshore marine coordination for a fifth Siemens Wind Power construction project. The Butendiek offshore wind farm in the North Sea began construction in early 2014, and is due for completion mid-2015. SMC, based on the UK Yorkshire coast, have been working offshore undertaking marine coordination for the 80 turbine site.
