Tidal Energy from Deep and Slow Waters

Deep Green, an underwater kite construction from the Swedish company Minesto, is set to be deployed in 2017 at the Holyhead Deep site off the coast of Anglesey, Wales. Delivering a customized turbine solution in 2016 for the underwater power plant project will be SCHOTTEL HYDRO. And while the turbine complements the first full-scale Deep Green device, 19 more devices are due to follow during the coming three years and will eventually form an array with an overall capacity of 10 MW.

Minesto Announces Management Appointments

Minesto, developer of the Deep Green marine energy power plant, announced that Fredrik Ahlström has been named Minesto’s Chief Financial Officer, succeeding CFO Charlotta Ekman who will take up the position as Minesto’s Chief Operating Officer. Ahlström joins Minesto as new CFO from Sibelco Nordic, a provider of industrial minerals, where he acted as CFO and led the financial operations of an international group encompassing mining quarries, production, logistics and global sales of industrial minerals.

Ailing Industry Kills Welsh Refinery

Europe's refiners face stiff competition from Asia, U.S. U.S. company Murphy Oil tried for more than four years to sell its Milford Haven refinery in Wales. The plant was finally doomed last week when a deal with entrepreneur Gary Klesch fell through because he could not secure financing. Banks were not convinced Klesch's plans to buy Britain's smallest and least sophisticated plant were viable, sources familiar with the transaction said. The 135,000 barrel-per-day plant has already been shut and will be dismantled in coming months…

Klesch Deal on Milford Haven Refinery Delayed

Gary Klesch and Murphy Oil have extended a deadline to later this week to negotiate the U.S. oil entrepreneur's purchase of the Milford Haven refinery in Wales, sources familiar with the matter said. One source said that an Oct. 31 deadline had been missed and that an announcement on the future of the plant would be made this week. The 135,000 barrel per day refinery employs about 450 people. Freudenberg Opens New Facility in Wales

Freudenberg Oil & Gas Technologies hosted a Grand Opening ceremony Thursday, September 18, at its new facility in Port Talbot, Wales. The new facility was opened by Edwina Hart, Minister of Economy, Science and Transport, and Dr. Mohsen Sohi, Speaker of the Management Board, Freudenberg & Company. Over the next few years, the Freudenberg Group will invest £11 million in the Port Talbot operation. The first phase of the project, which was celebrated with the opening of the new facility…
