NYK to Modify Tugboat to Ammonia Fuel at Keihin Dock Co.

NYK finalized a contract with Keihin Dock Co., Ltd., an NYK Group company, to modify a tugboat to ammonia-fuel specifications. Sakigake, a tugboat currently fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and operated in Tokyo Bay by NYK Group company Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha Corporation will be converted to operate on ammonia fuel by a target completion year of 2024.This R&D was initiated in October 2021 by NYK and IHI Power Systems Co., Ltd.

Qatargas Delivers 1st Spot LNG Cargo to JERA

Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) agreed with Japan’s newly established JERA Co. Inc. on the first spot Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo purchase under the newly executed Master Sales and Purchase agreement between the two companies. JERA is a recently formed joint venture between two of Japan’s largest power utility companies — Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. and TEPCO Fuel & Power, Inc.

Tokyo Gas Completes Hitachi LNG Terminal

Japan’s Tokyo Gas has completed construction of its Hitachi LNG terminal in Hitachi Port area marking the start of operations. The LNG terminal is equipped with a 230,000-kilolitre LNG tank that can hold about 100,000-110,000 tons of chilled gas. The Hitachi terminal has already received three cargoes this year, one from Malaysia's Bintulu and two from Russia's Sakhalin, says sources.

Tokyo Gas to Build LNG Tank at Sodegaura Terminal

Tokyo Gas Co, Japan's biggest natural gas utility, said on Friday it plans to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank at the Sodegaura LNG terminal on Tokyo Bay. The 200,000-kl tank, slated to begin operations by March 2024, will be able to hold 92,000 tonnes of LNG, making it larger than two ageing tanks that are set to be demolished, a company spokesman said.

Australian Project Sells 2 LNG Cargos

Australia's North West Shelf liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant sold a cargo to BG Group and Trafigura as part of a recent tender, in which some bidders sought to haul supply into premium European markets, trade sources said. Plans by several trading companies to ship Australian LNG into Europe or the Atlantic Basin would, if successful, mark the first such arrivals since 2009, boosting regional supply.
