France Eyes Role as Tidal Energy Powerhouse

French Secretary of State for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, Sébastien Lecornu, announced preliminary studies to the launch of a tidal energy tender in Paris yesterday evening. The announcement is an important first step and strong message to the sector. A tender for tidal energy will see France become the global center of tidal energy manufacturing. The tides in northern France are among the most powerful in the world.

Private Investors Commit to BRTP Project

Black Rock Tidal Power (BRTP), a SCHOTTEL HYDRO subsidiary, has set up a project company (Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV) which will take over its TRITON tidal energy platform once fully commissioned for $11.5 million. The private equity investment into the project company amounts to $8 million. TRITON is a floating platform carrying a number of SCHOTTEL Instream Turbines that generate up to 2.5 MW from tidal currents.

Jee Awarded Cable Solutions Contract

Jee Ltd., an independent multidiscipline subsea engineering and training firm, has been awarded a contract from Scottish Enterprise to develop subsea electrical array cable solutions for tidal energy installations. The contract is part of a study for the marine energy industry in Scotland, and will see Jee develop solutions for locating, securing, protecting and recovering electrical array cables for tidal energy installations.
