Acciona Gets DNV GL Certification
Acciona Energia, the biggest global operator exclusively in renewable energies, received the first ever prototype certificate for a grid-scale energy storage solution by DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body. Yaskawa Invests In Large-capacity Kinetic Energy Storage Company, Teraloop
Yaskawa Electric Corporation has completed a strategic investment in Helsinki-based Teraloop, a startup grid- and utility-scale kinetic energy storage company. This equity investment aims to help Teraloop accelerate the steps needed to bring its patent-pending storage solution to the market within the next two years. The financing will allow the prototype to be finalized for a complete simulation in commercial working conditions. Buckeye to Acquire 50% of VTTI Marine Terminal
Buckeye Partners LP, which operates pipelines and other transportation and storage assets for liquid petroleum products, said it bought a 50 percent stake in the marine terminal company VTTI BV for $1.15 billion. VTTI is a unit of Vitol Group. The deal is expected to close in early January 2017. VTTI will be 50% indirectly owned by Buckeye and 50% indirectly owned by Vitol. It is intended that the joint shareholding of Buckeye and Vitol will add greater strategic value to VTTI and will further strengthen VTTI's position as a leading independent provider of energy storage solutions.

Statoil Debuts Batwind
A new battery storage solution for offshore wind energy will be piloted in the world’s first floating wind farm, the Hywind pilot park off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Batwind will be developed in co-operation with Scottish universities and suppliers, under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Edinburgh on 18 March between Statoil, the Scottish Government, the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and Scottish Enterprise. Battery storage has the potential to mitigate intermittency and optimise output. This can improve efficiency and lower costs for offshore wind.
ABB to Power Norwegian Hybrid Car Ferry
ABB will supply the power system for a hybrid car ferry serving a passenger route in Norway. The vessel will run as a hybrid but can be modified to run as a full electric ferry with shore charging system. According to ABB, the contract is another success in northern Europe, where regulation is causing passenger ship operators to look at green solutions. “This is another example of how ABB is at the forefront of energy storage solutions for the maritime industry,” said Sindre Sætre, ABB’s Director of Marine and Ports in Norway.

Total and Saft announced today that, following the signature of an agreement between the companies, Total filed a friendly tender offer on all of the issued and outstanding shares in the capital of Saft with the French Financial Markets Authority (Autorité des Marchés(“AMF”)). Falling U.S. Inventories Boost Oil Prices
Official U.S. inventory data to be published on Wednesday; brimming oil tanks compound oversupply. Oil rose on Wednesday on reports of falling stockpiles and rising refinery activity in the United States, but analysts said a global supply glut would keep prices under pressure. Brent crude futures were up $1.06 at $44.63 per barrel by 1027 GMT after settling 99 cents lower the day before. U.S. crude futures were up 75 cents at $41.42 a barrel. The American Petroleum Institute (API), an industry group, said on Tuesday that U.S. crude stockpiles fell last week by 482,000 barrels due partly to higher refinery runs.
