Trelleborg Wins Contract for Johan Sverdrup Oil Field

Trelleborg’s engineered products operation has announced it has been awarded a contract for the supply of elastomeric bearings to Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup oil field, Norway's largest offshore development in the past three decades. Located on the Utsira Height in the North Sea, 160 kilometers west of Stavanger, the Johan Sverdup oil field will be operated by electrical power generated onshore, significantly reducing offshore emissions of climate gases.

Trelleborg’s engineered products operation has supplied a selection of bearing solutions for the world's first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project – Shell’s Prelude FLNG. Trelleborg has manufactured and delivered 52 vertical elastomeric bearings and 156 horizontal bearings for use on the 13 modules onboard the facility, as well as 40 turret bogey bearings to enable natural movements of the turret. Keel of First Eco Tanker for APT laid

On Saturday, March 7, General Dynamics NASSCO hosted a keel laying ceremony for the first ECO tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT) under construction at the company's shipyard in San Diego. San Diego's First Lady, Mrs. Katherine Faulconer, was the honoree for the ceremony. San Diego's First Lady authenticated the keel of the first ECO tanker for APT by welding her initials onto a steel plate during the ceremony.

Eastern Shipbuilding Start Construction of Dredge Barge ATB for Great Lakes

Eastern Shipbuilding is pleased to announce that on, Monday, September 15, 2014, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC  and Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) cut steel starting the construction of a new Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge ATB . The cutting ceremony of the 433’ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge Barge took place in Eastern’s under roof pre-fabrication building at its Allanton facility in Panama City, Florida.

Since 1990, steel has been used in the construction of some of the world’s biggest thrill rides but in recent years it is the steel market itself that has seen all the dips and climbs of a high speed rollercoaster. As the global shipping industry went through a major build cycle between 2002-2007 demand for steel plate grew over 350%, placing a significant strain on existing mill capacity and driving prices and profitability higher and higher.

Despite Protests Gazprom Starts Arctic Oil Production

Gazprom says it has started producing oil from the Prirazlomnoye field, which is the first Russian project for developing the Arctic shelf and the commencement, they say, of their large-scale activities aimed at creating a large hydrocarbon production center in the region. The Prirazlomnoye oil field [scene of an earlier Greenpeace protest] is located in the Pechora Sea, 60 kilometers off the shore. The recoverable oil reserves amount to 71.96 million tons…
