Australian Pump, an Australian designer and manufacturer of high-pressure cleaning equipment, was chosen to design and build 4,000 psi high pressure water blasters for Sydney’s Garden Island Dockyard. The machines, called the Aussie Atlas, feature an all stainless steel construction and produce a 4,000 psi 16 liter per minute performance. Designed for working on a wide range of vessels in the dry dock, the machines offer fast and efficient cleaning. With up to 30 machines working at any one time in the dock, safety is key. To this end,…

The global offshore wind farms (OWF) that are set for start-up this year will make 2020 the year with the highest ever use of steel jacket foundations for new developments, Norwegian energy intelligence firm Rystad Energy said in a report on Thursday. The trend of using this type of foundations - a lattice steel framework, with three or four anchors set on the seafloor - will be lead by the UK."A total of 258 turbines to be installed this year will have a jacket foundation, the most ever in a single year and representing about 20% of all offshore turbines to be commissioned globally…

CMHI Builds Alfa Lift

The construction of the 48,000 dwt semi-submersible offshore wind farm foundation installation vessel, Alfa Lift, is progressing at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard.CMHI has installed 78 out of 162 blocks in the dock of Offshore Heavy Transport’s (OHT) new wind farm foundation installation vessel. The hull structural steel construction of the remaining blocks is also taking shape; in total 103 of the 162 blocks have reached the non-destructive testing completion status.Alfa Lift, for which the first steel was cut on 1 March 2019…

First Monopile Loaded at Sif’s Maasvlakte 2 Location

Sif loaded its first monopile on board a seagoing vessel. The ship in question is the Innovation, a heavy-lift jack-up vessel owned by Geosea, part of the Belgian DEME Group. It was also the first job handled at the new section of Maasvlakte 2’s deep-sea quay (port number 8317). Monopiles are used for the foundations of offshore wind turbines. They can weigh up to 1,000 metric tons apiece. All in all, four monopiles will be loaded for transport today. Together with the so-called ‘transition pieces’: connecting sections that are used to join the turbine towers to the monopiles.

Mammoet, a provider of engineered heavy lifting and transport, announced it has completed the installation of a Tidal Power Plant (TPP) in the Netherlands. Working with Tocardo Tidal Turbines, producer of tidal and free-flow water turbines, Mammoet carried out the transportation and installation work for this renewable energy project at the Easter Scheldt storm surge barrier (Oosterscheldekering). The project, known as OTP2, comprised five tidal turbines in a steel structure with a total weight of 500 tons. The project raised a number of installation challenges for the teams involved, Mammoet said.
