Cenovus hires McKenzie as CFO from Husky Energy

Canadian oil and gas producer Cenovus Energy Inc named Jon McKenzie as chief financial officer on Thursday, bringing in an oil industry veteran who most recently helped rival Husky Energy Inc rein in costs and strengthen its finances. McKenzie will replace Ivor Ruste, who will retire later this month. McKenzie joined Husky as CFO in 2015 and was tasked with bringing down costs at a time when oil prices hit record lows.

Husky Energy CFO McKenzie Resigns

Canadian oil and gas producer Husky Energy Inc said on Thursday its chief financial officer, Jon McKenzie, has resigned effective immediately. The company did not give any reason for McKenzie's departure. Husky named Controller Jeff Hart as interim CFO and said it would update on its five-year plan and 2022 targets at its 2018 Investor Day to be held next month.

Italy's IPLOM Refinery Closed Due to Pipeline Issue

Peru Energy Company Reports Amazon Oil Spill

An oil spill in the Amazon region of Peru was detected on Friday night, state energy company Petroperu said in a statement on Saturday, adding that measures were being taken to fix the ruptured pipeline and to protect the environment. The company said it was investigating the cause of the spill, which took place in the Barranca district of Maranon province.

Shell Shuts Wells to Brutus Platform after GoM Spill

A 2,100-barrel oil spill in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico forced Royal Dutch Shell on Thursday to shut in all wells that flow to its Brutus platform, federal regulators said. Rosneft Reports Large Oil Spill on Sakhalin Island

Russian oil producer Rosneft said on Thursday that around 15 tonnes (110 barrels) of oil spilled off from an idled pipeline on the Pacific island of Sakhalin, while local ecologists say the scale of disaster is far larger. Rosneft said the spill occurred on Wednesday at the Ekhabi oilfield in northern Sakhalin. The company decided to burn the spilled oil to "minimise ecological damage".

Scientists Train Students on Oil Spill Research

As part of ongoing research nearly four years after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) will team up with a group of high school students in Florida to collect remnants of oil from Gulf Coast beaches this week. Marine chemist Chris Reddy studies how the many compounds that compose petroleum hydrocarbon, or oil, behave and change over time after an oil spill.
