Williams Inks Deal for Whale Deepwater Transport Services

Williams (NYSE: WMB) reached an agreement with Shell Offshore Inc. and Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to provide offshore natural gas gathering and crude oil transportation services as well as onshore natural gas processing services for the Whale development located approximately 10 miles from the Shell-operated Perdido host facility.Williams plans to expand its existing Gulf of Mexico offshore infrastructure via a 25-mile gas lateral pipeline build from the Whale platform to the existing Perdido gas pipeline and a new 125-mile oil pipeline to the existing Williams-owned GA-A244 junction platform.

Shell Makes Large Heartland Discovery in GoM

Shell Offshore, Inc. (“Shell”) has announced a large, deep-water, exploration discovery in the Norphlet geologic play in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with its Dover well (100% Shell). The Dover discovery is Shell’s sixth in the Norphlet and encountered more than 800 net feet of pay (244 meters). The discovery is located approximately 13 miles from the Appomattox host and is considered an attractive potential tieback. Shell’s Appomattox host has now arrived on location in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and is expected to start production before the end of 2019.

BSEE : Investigation Report into Subsea Jumper Leak

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) released the panel investigation report on the May 11, 2016 subsea jumper leak on a platform operated by Shell Offshore, Inc. The leak from Green Canyon Block 248 occurred on Subsea Well #4, resulting in an estimated release of 1,926 barrels of oil. The BSEE investigation panel concluded that the loss of containment in the Glider subsea system was caused by the ductile tensile overload fracture of the Load Limiting Joint of the Glider #4 jumper.

Shell Makes Big Deepwater Oil Discovery in Gulf of Mexico

Oil major Royal Dutch Shell said its U.S. unit had made one of its biggest oil discoveries in the past decade in the Whale deepwater well in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The Whale is operated by Shell and co-owned by U.S. oil giant Chevron Corp. "Evaluation of the discovery was ongoing, and appraisal drilling is underway to further delineate the discovery and define development options," Shell Offshore Inc said in a statement without giving figures. Shell has three Gulf of Mexico deepwater projects under construction -- Appomattox, Kaikias and Coulomb Phase 2.

Heavy Lift: Shell’s Appomattox Hull Delivered to Texas

COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd. vessel M/V Xin Guang Hua delivered Shell’s 40,335mt Appomattox hull from Geoje, South Korea to Ingleside, Texas on October 5, following nearly four years of work with Shell Offshore Inc to prepare for the sailing   The Appomattox hull is the largest and heaviest cargo transported to date by COSCO’s fleet of semi-submersible heavy lift vessels.   “We are very proud to have worked closely with Shell and be part of the Appomattox project’s overall success,” said Josh Wilson, V.P. Business Development for COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Transport.

Danos Builds Boarding Valve Skids for Shell Appomattox

Danos said it has completed the fabrication of three boarding valve skids and one service line skid for Shell Offshore Inc.’s deep-water Appomattox facility. Requiring approximately 12 months to complete, the project engaged four Danos service lines, including project management, fabrication, coatings and automation. “Delivery of this project marks Danos’ entry into the module fabrication market,” noted Mark Danos, vice president of project services. The skids, weighing in at approximately 160 tons each, were fabricated at Danos’ 120,000 square-foot facility in Amelia, La.

Shell Deploys Third LNG-powered OSV

Shell Offshore Inc. today marked the delivery of the third liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered offshore supply vessel (OSV) in Port Fourchon, La. The new vessel, Harvey Liberty, chartered from specialist company Harvey Gulf International Marine, will join sister ships, Harvey Energy and Harvey Power, and support Shell’s deepwater operations in the Gulf of Mexico. “This is an important milestone for Shell and Harvey Gulf,” said Tahir Faruqui, Shell’s General Manager LNG North America.

Shell Selects Materia's Thermal Insulation System

Materia, Inc., in conjunction with Aegion Corporation, has been selected by Shell Offshore, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell), to supply pipeline insulation materials for the Appomattox development in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The insulation system is unique among existing polymers in its ability to provide an effective thermal barrier between flowlines and seawater. The thermosetting cross-linked hydrocarbon polymer maintains structural integrity in deepwater operating environments as an incompressible solid at water depths greater than 10,000 feet.

FPSO Turritella Financing Completed

The Turritella joint venture led by SBM Offshore has completed the project financing of FPSO Turritella for a total of $800 million. Project financing was secured by a consortium of 12 international banks with an average cost of debt of 3.5 percent over the 10 year post-completion maturity. FPSO Turritella is owned and operated by a joint venture owned by affiliated companies of SBM Offshore (55 percent), Mitsubishi Corporation (30 percent) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (15 percent).

Technip Bags Stones Project Contract in GoM

Technip was awarded by Shell Offshore Inc. (“Shell”) a contract for the development of subsea infrastructure for the Stones project. Included in the service are two subsea production tie-backs to the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. The Stones field is located in the Walker Ridge area in the US Gulf of Mexico, at a water depth of 2,930 meters along the pipelay route.  installation of the subsea production system(1), inclusive of associated project management, engineering and stalk fabrication. Technip will leverage its integrated approach in the subsea business.

NYK, MC to Form JV for Stones O&G Project in GoM

NYK has made the decision to invest jointly with the Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) in the chartering, operation, and maintenance of a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel* in the Stones project, an ultra-deep-sea field in the Gulf of Mexico 2,900 meters below the surface and approximately 320 kilometers off the shore of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The Stones project is owned and operated by Shell Offshore Inc., a group of Royal Dutch Shell plc., and NYK and MC have entered a consortium with SBM Offshore, which has been entrusted by Shell Offshore Inc.

SBM Offshore Divests Stake in Turritella Project

SBM Offshore has entered an agreement with Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) for the acquisition of a stake in the joint venture companies incorporated for the purpose of owning and operating Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Turritella, the company announced today. Noble Pleads Guilty to Enviro Charges Surrounding Kulluk

Noble Drilling (U.S.) LLC was charged with environmental and maritime crimes for operating the drill ship Noble Discoverer and the drilling unit Kulluk in violation of federal law in Alaska in 2012, the Department of Justice announced. Under the terms of a plea agreement filed in federal court today, Noble will plead guilty to eight felony offenses, pay $12.2 million dollars in fines and community service payments, implement a comprehensive Environmental Compliance Plan, and will be placed on probation for four years.

EPA Fines Shell for Clean Air Act Permit Violations during Offshore Oil Exploration in Alaska

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced settlements with Shell Gulf of Mexico, Inc. and Shell Offshore, Inc. for violations of their Clean Air Act permits for arctic oil and gas exploration drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, off the North Slope of Alaska. Based on EPA’s inspections and Shell’s excess emission reports, EPA documented numerous air permit violations for Shell’s Discoverer and Kulluk drill ship fleets, during the approximately two months the vessels operated during the 2012 drilling season.
