Sustainable Marine Energy is preparing to ship the PLAT-I tidal energy platform from Connel in Western Scotland to Grand Passage in Nova Scotia. Raptor Oil Closes $5.8 Mln in a Series C Funding Round

Aberdeen-based technology start-up Raptor Oil said it has secured £4.2 million ($5.8 million) of investment in a Series C funding round. The round, led by Statoil Technology Invest (STI), was completed on December 15, 2017. It includes investment from ConocoPhillips and new investor Scottish Investment Bank, the investment arm of Scottish Enterprise. In addition, funds were granted by The Oil & Gas Technology Center. New Player Enters the Decommissioning Market

A new entrant to North Sea decommissioning, Well-Safe Solutions was established by a group of oil industry stalwarts Alasdair Locke, Mark Patterson and Paul Warwick, setting out to provide a new approach to the safe and cost-efficient decommissioning of subsea wells. The new start company, which aims to attract £200 million ($260 million) in investment and create 400 new jobs, will offer a specialist well abandonment service.

Enpro Subsea Drives $1.8mln into Flow Assurance Project

Enpro Subsea has announced a research and development grant from Scottish Enterprise which will see the firm investing £1.5million ($1.85mln) to develop its flow assurance technology further to address emerging markets in deeper waters. The news came as Scottish Enterprise revealed a new Subsea Engineering Action Plan with the aim of capturing an even bigger slice of the current £50 billion ($61.5bln) global subsea market.

SME Secures Funding to Begin Array Build Out at EMEC

Sustainable Marine Energy (SME) has arranged a £4.5 million (approximately $6.6 million) funding package to commence the deployment of an array of its PLAT-O tidal energy systems at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. SME has conducted extensive testing of its first PLAT-O prototype in the Solent, off the Isle of Wight, during 2014 and 2015. SME have now moved their operational base to Orkney and will be grid connecting their first system at EMEC over the coming months.

Statoil Debuts Batwind

A new battery storage solution for offshore wind energy will be piloted in the world’s first floating wind farm, the Hywind pilot park off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Batwind will be developed in co-operation with Scottish universities and suppliers, under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Edinburgh on 18 March between Statoil, the Scottish Government, the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and Scottish Enterprise.

Two Named to NSRI Board

All Energy 2015

In just four weeks’ time All-Energy 2015, the UK’s  renewable energy exhibition and conference will open in its new home, Glasgow’s SECC, with the expectation that up to 7,000 people from home and overseas will visit the exhibition, to make new contacts and source new suppliers, attend the multi-stream conference over the two days (Wednesday 6 – Thursday 7 May), and relish the networking possibilities of its Giant Networking Evening. Jee Ltd., an independent multidiscipline subsea engineering and training firm, has been awarded a contract from Scottish Enterprise to develop subsea electrical array cable solutions for tidal energy installations. The contract is part of a study for the marine energy industry in Scotland, and will see Jee develop solutions for locating, securing, protecting and recovering electrical array cables for tidal energy installations.
