Shale Innovator Mark Papa Joins Schlumberger Board

Oilfield services company Schlumberger NV has appointed shale pioneer Mark Papa and energy researcher Tatiana Mitrova to its board of directors, according to a filing on Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.Papa, who built independent energy producer EOG Resources into one of the most profitable U.S. shale companies, currently heads Centennial Resource Development.His appointment comes just a few months after Helge Lund, former chief executive of BG Group and Statoil…

Woods Promoted at Exxon Mobil Corporation

Darren W. Woods has been elected president of Exxon Mobil Corporation and a member of the board of directors, effective January 1, 2016. The election of Woods, who is currently senior vice president of the corporation, was made during a meeting of the ExxonMobil board of directors on Wednesday. With the addition of Woods, the ExxonMobil board is comprised of 13 directors, 11 of whom are non-employee directors. Rex W. Tillerson, 63, continues his position of chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the corporation.

Baksht Succeeds Swent as Ensco CFO

Ensco plc has named Jon Baksht the company’s new chief financial officer based in London, succeeding Jay Swent, who will retire at year end. Baksht was most recently vice president - finance after joining Ensco as vice president - treasurer. His professional career includes experience in investment banking and consulting. Baksht has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Texas.

National Oilwell Varco Appoints Senior VP & CFO

Oilfield equipment manufacturer National Oilwell Varco, Inc. has named Jose A. Bayardo as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective August 28, the company announced today. Bayardo succeeds Scott K. Duff, Interim Chief Financial Officer, who will continue to serve as the company’s Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer. Prior to joining National Oilwell Varco, Bayardo served as Senior Vice President, Resource and Business Development at Continental Resources, Inc.

Statoil BoD Selections Announced

In a meeting in the Corporate Assembly of Statoil ASA on 9 June 2015  Øystein Løseth was elected as new chair and Roy Franklin as a new member and deputy chair of Statoil's board of directors. Chair of the board Svein Rennemo and board member Jim Mulva had in advance informed the nomination committee that they did not wish to stand for re-election in 2015. Bjørn Tore Godal, Jakob Stausholm and Marjan Oudeman were re-elected as members of the board of directors.

Solar Energy Depends on U.S. Funding Shift

The United States must redirect spending from wasteful solar power tax credits and prepare the electricity grid for large-scale solar energy use if the industry is to play a significant role in lowering carbon emissions, a report led by MIT researchers said on Tuesday. Current tax incentives aimed at encouraging users to install solar technologies fail to reward actual energy produced, said the authors of the report, published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Energy Initiative, which promotes adoption of renewable energy.
