ClassNK Inks MOU with PowerX on Power ARK Project

ClassNK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PowerX, Inc. (PowerX) for a collaboration on the development of the Power Transfer Vessel (Power ARK).PowerX is carrying out a project of the first model of the Power ARK series, which is designed for transferring renewable energy in Japanʼs coastal waters, and this project is in the design and development stage towards a demonstration experiment and full-scale operation in 2025.The first model of the Power ARK series, “Power ARK 100” is a 100TEU container ship specially designed for transferring renewable energy in Japanʼs coastal waters.

Drydocks World Earns Five Star Safety Grading

The company underwent a detailed, quantified and objective audit conducted by the British Safety Council on occupational health, safety management systems and a number of key safety indicators. CWind Wins Third Straight Health & Safety Award

CWind, a provider of services to the offshore wind industry, has once again won the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Gold Award. The Gold award in the annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recognizes the company’s approach and commitment to occupational health and safety, achieving high levels of compliance and ensuring above average safety performance. It not only looks at accident records, but also at the entrants’ overarching Health and Safety Management Systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.

BSEE Issues Alert on DP System Failure

Dynamic positioning system failures on offshore supply vessels engage in oil and gas operations in the U.S. The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has issued a Joint Safety Alert addressing a dynamic positioning (DP) incident involving an offshore supply vessel (OSV) which resulted in a loss of position while conducting a critical Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity. The OSV was attached to a wellhead, lost position and severed the wellhead tree causing a lubricant release on the platform deck and to the environment.

Canada Didn't Adequately Audit Rail Firm Before Disaster

The Canadian government did not adequately audit the rail firm at the center of last year's Lac-Megantic oil-by-rail disaster, in which 47 people died, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said on Tuesday. In its final report into the accident, the independent agency called for more thorough audits of safety management systems and said more physical defenses were needed to prevent runaway trains. The company that operated the train, Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway Ltd (MMA), filed for bankruptcy protection last year.

Foster Wheeler Honored With UK's RoSPA Award 7th Time

Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that the UK subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded, for the seventh successive year, the prestigious Order of Distinction Award for Occupational Health and Safety by the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The award will be presented during a ceremony in London on 17 June. The Order of Distinction is RoSPA’s highest achievement award and is only presented to those companies which have attained at least 15 consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards for outstanding health and safety performance.

Joint Safety Alert: DPS Failure on Vessels

Discussion: This Joint Safety Alert addresses a dynamic positioning (DP) incident on a vessel resulting in a loss of position while conducting a critical Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity. An equipment failure, an operational error and multiple failure modes not identified in the vessel’s Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) combined to produce the loss of position. The OCS activity – well operations that introduced hydrocarbon flow from a well to the vessel – was critical because of the potential for loss of position to result in personal injury…

National Grid contract for Wood Group GTS

Wood Group GTS has secured a $3.2 million contract from National Grid to provide gas turbine icon™ governor control system upgrades to nine Rolls-Royce Avon gas turbines, including an additional governor to act as a rotational spare. The upgrades will be fitted to gas turbines operating at compressor stations located in Cambridge, Diss, Chelmsford and Huntingdon in the United Kingdom. The icon governor control system regulates fuel flow into the gas turbine, providing stable operation across the turbine performance range from no load to full load conditions.
