Oil Spill Detection: Remote Sensing Equipment Tested
The latest in satellite, airborne and in-water surveillance and communications equipment were recently put to work off the coast of England for an exercise aiming to determine how remote sensing technologies can help identify and monitor oil spills at sea more effectively. The exercise took place on June 13, 2017 in open sea off the southern coast of England, showcased through Oil Spill Response Ltd.’s (OSRL) Southampton-based Visualization Center, which provided a ‘Common Operating Picture’, integrating data from each of the technology partner’s equipment as well as oil spill modeling platforms and satellite feeds.
North Dakota Sees Low Cost to Comply with Crude Standard
North Dakota's strict new standards for oil treatment, requiring every barrel of crude be filtered for dangerous types of natural gas, should add 10 cents to the cost of producing every barrel, regulators said on Friday. That's roughly $3.7 million per month, statewide, based on October's monthly oil production of 36.6 million barrels. The new standards take effect in April. The ongoing cost would be in addition to one-time capital investments of $20 million needed statewide, an average of roughly $2,500 per well in the state's Bakken and Three Forks shale oil formations…
Oil Spill Closes 65 miles of Mississippi River
A 65-mile (105-km) stretch of the lower Mississippi River, including the Port of New Orleans, remained closed on Sunday night while crews cleaned up oil that spilled when a barge was hit by another vessel, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The collision happened on Saturday afternoon near Vacherie, Louisiana, about 52 miles (84 km) west of New Orleans, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough. The Lindsay Ann Erickson, which was pushing grain barges, collided with a barge carrying barrels of light crude oil pushed by the Hannah C. Settoon, which caused oil to go into the river, according to Colclough.
Tecton Acquires Endurance Exploration
Tecton Corporation (TTNC) has acquired Endurance Exploration Group, LLC, a development stage company that specializes in subsea shipwreck research, search and survey, inspection and recovery projects, in a share exchange agreement. Established in 2009, Endurance has evaluated over 125,000 shipwreck database entries and other sources to develop a "High Interest" list of approximately 400 shipwrecks and a "Target List" consisting of about two-dozen potential shipwreck projects; and, two of these "Target List" shipwrecks have moved into operational phases, i.e. "Operational List".
