Siemens Equipment for Pertamina's Balikpapan Refinery
Siemens Gas and Power will supply a range of compression and power generation equipment for the Petramina's Balikpapan Refinery located on Borneo Island in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The equipment will be installed as part of Pertamina’s Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP). The RDMP involves the construction of a residual fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) unit with a design capacity of 90,000 barrels per stream per day (bpsd); a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sulfur removal unit; a propylene recovery unit; and an 80,000 bpsd middle distillate hydrotreater.Siemens Gas and Power’s scope of supply includes 17 reciprocating compressors, along with a single-stage, hot gas expander.
Kawasaki Wins AiP for LNG Floating Power Plant
Japanese manufacturer of transportation equipment and machinery announced that it has obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating power plant equipped with its own gas turbine (combined cycle power plant (CCPP) model). This approval was obtained from world-leading ship classification organization DNV GL based on its latest “Gas Power Plant” rules, which were introduced in 2018.An LNG floating power plant is an integrated system in which LNG fuel tanks, LNG regasification unit, power generation equipment and switchyard are all outfitted on the hull.
RentAir Offshore and ATR Power Solutions Merge
RentAir Offshore and ATR Power Solutions have merged to become one company, offering a broader service to the global energy industry. This follows the merger of their parent companies, Centurion Group and ATR Group, earlier this year. The new combined business, which will trade under the Rentair Offshore brand, brings the companies together in the rental of specialist air compression, steam and power generation equipment to support oil and gas production, well testing, fabric maintenance and renewables. Robbie Garden, Divisional Director of Rentair Offshore…
MHI, Hyflux JV to Build Waste-to-energy Plant in Tuas
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) group companies will participate in a waste-to-energy (WTE) project in Singapore for the incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW) and the generation of electricity using heat energy from incineration. This morning the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore signed a Design-Build-Own-Operate (DBOO) scheme contract under which MHI Group companies and Hyflux Ltd., a leading provider of integrated water management and environmental solutions in Singapore, will jointly construct a WTE plant in Tuas. The plant will have a processing capacity of up to 3…
Carolina CAT Leads NC Solar Farm Project
Carolina CAT Power Systems, a provider of service, parts and sales of power generation equipment, is completing the final stages of construction for a new 10-acre solar farm in Shelby, N.C. Scheduled to open in late June 2015, the site will contain 9,828 panels and produce 3MW DC of electricity, enough to power approximately 250 homes, which will be procured by Duke Energy and added back to the North Carolina power grid. “We are thrilled to be a part of the renewable energy movement, especially when it’s in our own backyard,” said Edward Weisiger, Jr., CEO of Carolina CAT Power Systems, a CTE company.
MHPS Bags Order from Hartha Power, Iraq
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order from the Ministry of Electricity (MOE) of Iraq for refurbishment of Unit 4 (output: 200 megawatts) at the Hartha Thermal Power Station. The refurbishment work, scheduled for completion in May 2017, requires large-scale replacement of core components of the plant's seriously degraded power generation facilities. The project is being financed through a Japanese ODA (Overseas Development Assistance) loan extended to the Government of the Republic of Iraq. The Hartha Thermal Power Station, which incorporates both gas- and oil-fired units, is located in the city of Basra in Iraq's south.
IGCC System for Tokyo Electric Power
A consortium led by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order from Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) for design work for a large-scale integrated coal gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) system to be adopted for a project to create the world's most advanced coal-fired thermal power plants. The project plans call for the construction of two 500-megawatt (MW) class IGCC plants in Fukushima Prefecture to help promote local industrial recovery. Following receipt of the order, the consortium, which also includes Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems, Ltd.
UK Oil Output Threatened by Offshore Power Shortages
More platform power needed to boost recovery from mature fields; producers say sellers offer gas on unhelpful terms. Loss of hubs will toll death knell for dependent fields. Britain's oil industry is facing the threat of a cascade of North Sea rig closures, unless ageing platforms can urgently source more gas to help squeeze out the remaining barrels. The potential threat to oil revenues looms as Scotland prepares to vote in September's independence referendum -- a debate in which oil production forecasts have become a political football. The affected Northern North Sea (NNS) is a very mature part of the basin where producers are trapped in a vicious circle of falling output…
Alstom Loss is PR Win for New Siemens Chief
Within weeks of taking the helm at Siemens in 2007, Peter Loescher splashed out $7 billion for U.S. diagnostics firm Dade Behring. It was the first of several acquisitions that went bad and ultimately cost the Austrian his job. Joe Kaeser replaced Loescher less than a year ago, promising a more disciplined approach. And in his first major test as CEO - the politically-charged battle for France's Alstom - he has been true to his word. On Friday, the French government announced it had chosen U.S. conglomerate General Electric over Siemens and its bidding partner Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in the contest to acquire the energy assets of Alstom.
Alstom Wins €225m Gas Turbine Contract in Iraq
French engineering group Alstom said it had won a contract worth €225 million ($312 million) to provide power generation equipment for the Al-Anbar gas-fired combined-cycle power plant being built in the Anbar province of Iraq. Alstom will supply four GT26 gas turbines, four heat recovery steam generators, two steam turbines and six air-cooled turbogenerators for the 1,642 megawatt power plant, due to be commissioned in 2016, it said in a statement on Monday.
