CGG GeoConsulting and Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica Announce First Reported Discovery of Live Oil Onshore Jamaica. CGG GeoConsulting and the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) have announced the discovery of two independent live oil seeps from different parts of the island of Jamaica. This significant find marks the first documented occurrence of ‘live’, or flowing, oil from onshore Jamaica and will be of particular interest to oil explorationists focused on Central America and the Caribbean.

Play Fairway Mapping is Key in the North Sea

Regional play fairway mapping is the key to locating remaining prospectivity in the prolific North Sea hydrocarbon province, according to the new Ternan play evaluation report released by global energy services company LR Senergy. The Ternan 2015 Integrated North Sea Report is the latest in a series of regional play fairway evaluations that analyze petroleum systems and provide exploration specialists with a unique insight into the regional risk factors that impact subsurface studies. The reports are designed for evaluation and screening of exploration opportunities.

Celtic Sea Portfolio Update

Fastnet Oil & Gas plc focused on near-term exploration and appraisal acreage in Morocco and the Celtic Sea, provided an update on its Celtic Sea portfolio. ·      Award of new operated licensing option named the Ventry Licensing Option ("Ventry") in the North Celtic Sea Basin. o  100% working interest in the Ventry Licensing Option covering 996 km2 over blocks 55/13 and part of blocks 55/7, 55/8, 55/12, 55/17, 55/18 and 55/19. o  Contiguous with and extending westwards from the previously awarded Mizzen Licensing Option 12/3 and East Mizzen Licensing Option 13/3.

Woodside Acquires Exploration Acreage in Gabon

Woodside has acquired a 40% participating interest in an exploration, exploitation and production sharing contract (EEPSC) for Block F15 in the Gabon Coastal Basin. Block F15 is located 140 km off the south-western coast of Gabon and covers over 2,700 km². Water depths range from 2,300 to 3,000 m. First Shale Core Samples Drilled by SD School of Mines & Technology

Drilling began last week for the first shale samples to be analyzed in a range of advanced laboratory tests that could ultimately lead to enhanced energy production, carbon dioxide sequestration, underground hydrocarbon storage and waste disposal. The drilling in Fort Pierre is expected to be completed this week. Scientists and engineers will analyze what could be more than 3,000 pounds of shale samples in various laboratories throughout the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology campus and its partner RESPEC, a national engineering consulting company based in Rapid City.
