Vantage Drilling wins $622 mln Settlement against Petrobras
Brazil's state-controlled oil company Petrobras has been fined $622 million by an international tribunal for breaching a 2009 contract with a unit of Vantage Drilling, the U.S.-based rig contactor said on Monday. The tribunal found that Petrobras and its units, Petrobras America Inc (PAI) and Petrobras Venezuela Investments and Services (PVIS) breached a drilllship contract with Vantage Deepwater Co. In 2016 (https://reut.rs/2KKTLwo), Petrobras executive Jorge Zelada was sentenced to 12 years and two months in jail for corruption and money laundering after he was convicted for unduly awarding Vantage a contract in 2009.
Petrobras to Sell Pasadena Refinery in the US
Brazil's state-controlled oil company, Petróleo Brasileiro SA, said on Tuesday it had started taking steps to sell its refinery in Pasadena, Texas, an installation ensnared in Brazil's largest corruption scandal. Petrobras, as the company is known, said its U.S. subsidiary, Petrobras America Inc, would soon open a non-binding phase for interested companies to communicate willingness to take part in negotiations for the 110,000-barrels-per-day processing unit. BSEE, USCG Investigating GoM Rig Fatality
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) are investigating the fatality of a worker on board the Petrobras 10,000 drillship in the Gulf of Mexico. Petrobras America Inc. reported the fatality on board the Transocean Ltd. owned drillship at about 4:45 a.m., December 2, 2017. The rig was in an area of the Gulf known as Walker Ridge 469, about 172 miles south of Port Fourchon, La. The deceased worked for Spencer Ogden Ltd. and was participating in pipe handling operations at the time of his injury. No other personnel were harmed in the incident, and there was no pollution as a result of the incident, BSEE said.
