Search Suspended for Worker Missing in US Oil Platform Blast
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a worker missing from an oil production platform in Louisiana's Lake Pontchartrain that exploded and caught fire late on Sunday. Missing is Timothy Morrison, 44, of Katy, Texas, the Coast Guard said in a statement. Seven other workers were sent to hospital with injuries in the incident. The U.S. Coast Guard said an oil production platform has caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico, roughly 80 miles southwest of Grand Isle, La. The fire, which broke out aboard the Ship Shoal 266 A oil production platform at approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday, was reported to have been full extinguished by approximately 5:50 a.m., according to the rig’s owner Renaissance Offshore. USCG Investigates Oil Slick off California Coast
The U.S. Coast Guard was investigating a large oil sheen off the California coast west of Santa Barbara on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the agency said. The slick, which was about 60 feet (18 meters) wide, was spotted about 1,000 yards (meters) offshore from Goleta State Beach west of Santa Barbara, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Andrea Anderson. Anderson could not give the approximate length of the sheen. In May, as much as 2,400 barrels of crude oil were spilled onto a pristine beach about 15 miles (24 km) west of Goleta when a pipeline ruptured along the coast.

Update: LOOP Terminal Shutdown
LOOP's Offshore Marine Terminal suspended its crude oil offloading operations on August 13 while investigating an oil sheen discovered along the pipeline. According to the terminal, field crews continue to execute the repair plan as scheduled. Estimates indicate that marine offloading operations may resume between August 21-23. LOOP said it will continue to evaluate options to safely expedite offloading operations when repairs are complete. All other pipelines into and out of the Clovelly Hub remain operational. loopllc.com

LOOP's Offshore Marine Terminal suspended its crude oil offloading operations while investigating an oil sheen discovered along the LOOP pipeline right-of-way on August 13. Sheening continued in the area of the pipeline. Activities are underway to inspect and repair the pipeline. Preliminary estimates indicate that marine offloading operations may resume between August 23 and 2. LOOP said it will continue to evaluate options to safely expedite offloading operations when repairs are complete.
BP Whiting Oil Spill: Latest Update
The US Coast Guard informs that weather conditions improved overnight enabling clean up operations and assessment activities to progress near the BP Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana. High winds and heavy surf created unsafe conditions for contractors and assessment team personnel both Friday and Saturday, suspending activities. A Coast Guard helicopter returning from a separate mission conducted an overflight assessment of the area and did not observe any oil sheen on the water.
