Crude Oil Spill Near Port Sulphur, La.

Lift Boat Crew Rescued in US Gulf

Four crewmembers aboard the lift boat Superior Trust were rescued after the vessel became unstable near Southwest Pass, La., Wednesday. U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call early Wednesday morning reporting one of the Superior Trust’s legs failed and made contact with a natural gas platform’s walkway resulting in approximately 10 gallons of oil discharge.

Response Continues to Oil Spill off Louisiana

The joint effort between the U.S. Coast Guard and Shell continues in response to an oil discharge from a segment of flow line at the Glider Field located approximately 90 miles south of Timbalier Island, La., that occurred at approximately 11 a.m., Thursday. It is estimated that 88,200 gallons of crude oil has been discharged. Shell has shut-in production at the Glider Field.

Erickson Fuel Co. Settles with EPA for Oil Spill

Medford, Mass. oil distributor, Erickson Fuel Company, Inc., will pay a penalty of $14,500 to settle U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) claims regarding a January 2014 oil spill, and Erickson’s failure to prepare an oil spill prevention plan, the EPA reported. The January 2014 oil spill originated from a parked diesel fuel delivery truck and ultimately caused oil to be released to Winter Brook, which flows into the Mystic River.

BP Whiting Refinery Cleanup Winds Down

An assessment team, comprised of representatives from the Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency and BP, stated Friday that no further cleanup actions were recommended following a scheduled return visit to the BP Whiting Refinery to conduct a Determination of Clean survey. The visit was originally scheduled to take place Thursday but was postponed due to heavy rains and high water levels.
