Offshore Wind: New York Moves on Sunrise
Sunrise Wind, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy, has signed a 25-year OREC purchase-and-sale agreement with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).Earlier in July 2019, New York selected Sunrise Wind as the preferred bidder for an 880MW offshore wind farm (OWF).The Sunrise Wind project has an average all-in development cost of USD80.64 per MWh (2018 prices) with an expected average OREC cost of USD22.62 per MWh.Sunrise Wind is the world’s leading offshore wind developer, and Eversource, New England’s largest energy company.
New Hires Boost RCG US Team
The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG), has announced the appointment of several new hires in its New York office to support the accelerating offshore wind market in the United States and renewable energy projects worldwide. The experienced personnel include AJ Negrelli, Emily Kuhn, and Craig Hutchinson.Negrelli is a respected project manager and engineer with practical experience delivering offshore wind construction projects, working for the major wind turbine supplier Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
GE Signs Exelon In Its Largest Power-plant Software Deal
General Electric Co has signed up U.S. energy utility Exelon Corp to use its full software set to analyze and manage power plants in 48 states, the largest GE deployment in the power sector so far, the companies said on Tuesday. The Exelon deal, aimed at wringing greater efficiency from the business of generating electricity, marks another advance in GE's effort to lift annual digital technology revenue to $14 billion in 2020 from $5 billion in 2015, across its many industrial products. It also is one of the three largest sales of GE's Predix industrial operating system so far.
BOEM Pushes Wind Energy Development Offshore NY
As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan to create American jobs, develop domestic clean energy sources and cut carbon pollution, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Director Abigail Ross Hopper today announced a major step in spurring wind energy development in federal waters offshore New York. BOEM has defined a Wind Energy Area totaling approximately 81,130 acres for potential commercial wind energy development. The area is located about 11 miles south of Long Island.
Governor Cuomo Vetoes Port Ambrose LNG Port
NY Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has vetoed the Port Ambrose Liquefied Natural Gas Deepwater Port, citing security and economic concerns along with the potential to negatively impact off-shore wind development. The project, which had been proposed by Liberty Natural Gas, LLC, required approval from both Governor Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Christie under the federal Deepwater Port Act. Governor Cuomo detailed his full position in a letter sent today to the U.S. Maritime Administration.
New York State to Set up Fuel Reserve in November
A strategic fuel reserve at six locations in upstate New York is expected to be operational in November to ensure gasoline and diesel fuel are available to emergency responders in the event of an emergencies like 2012's Hurricane Sandy. Approximately 2.5 million gallons (9.5 million liters) of gasoline and ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) will be kept in the reserve in terminals in Rensselaer, Brewerton, Rochester, Marcy, Vestal and Buffalo, Governor Andrew Cuomo's office said in a release.
Busy 2014 for the Port of Erie
Erie Sand and Gravel began loading 10 massive GE-built locomotives onto a BBC Chartering vessel yesterday morning at the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority. Later this week, the Port will receive three transformers bound for Massena, New York. The winter of 2013 was a record breaker - with extreme ice coverage lasting until last week in portions of the Great Lakes. These shipments signal a positive sign for the Port.
