Sustainable Marine Preps to Feed Tidal Energy into Nova Scotia Grid

Sustainable Marine is poised to push the button and feed zero emission electricity generated from the tidal flows in the Bay of Fundy into the Nova Scotia grid, an achievement that follows several months of intense activity in the Bay of Fundy by Sustainable Marine’s Canadian, British and German team, supported by an international network of supply chain partners.After laying a 1km underwater cable in late January, the firm subsequently connected its PLAT-I 6.4 tidal energy system to a purpose-built substation, located on the shores of Grand Passage.

Seafox Drops Takeover Pursuit of GMS

Dutch jack-up services company Seafox has ended its pursuit to acquire rival Gulf Marine Services.After it in April floated an idea about the possible takeover of GMS, the GMS board rejected the plan deeming the move opportunistic, valuing the company's equity "at only US$32 million," and urging its shareholders not to accept it.Seafox has previously said that its offer, if made firm, would be 10 pence per GMS share (or $0.09 per share if higher).GMS said last Thursday it had received letters from shareholders who collectively…

Northern Offshore Services, SEA O.G Form CTV JV for U.S. Offshore Wind Space

Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) and SEA O.G have entered into an agreement to provide marine services and CTV operations to the offshore wind industry in the United States.The partnership will combine the forces of N-O-S, the crew transfer vessel operator in Europe, and the offshore services provider, SEA O.G. Offshore.Northern Offshore Group, based in Sweden operates about 65 vessels in which most are crew transfer vessels.“SEA O.G Offshore is a highly skilled marine supplier with a distinguished reputation for excellence,” says Fredrik Hallqvist, Chief Commercial Officer of Northern Offshore Services.

GMS Fleet Utilization at 2015 High as More Middle East Work Secured

Gulf Marine Services PLC (GMS), a UAE-bases supplier of offshore jack-up service units, has won a seven-month contract for one of its E-Class (large) vessels, and an extension for a smaller unit.Under the 7-month contract which also includes extension options, GMS will provide support for offshore activities on behalf of a Middle East client, the company said Tuesday.The vessel will be mobilized for the start of operations during the summer of 2020. GMS has also secured a two-month contract extension of a K Class (small) vessel, also for a Middle Eastern-based client. "This increases the total GMS fleet utilization to 82% for 2020.

GMS Rejects Seafox Proposal Again

Gulf Marine Services (GMS), a UAE-based owner of a fleet of jack-up service units for the offshore energy industry, has again rejected Seafox's takeover proposal and has urged its shareholders to do the same.Seafox, the Dutch owner of a fleet of offshore jack-up service vessels, late in April made a non-binding proposal to take over the UAE-based jack-up specialist GMS. Both companies provide offshore service support jack-up units for hook-up and commissioning in the oil & gas and offshore wind industries.The proposal was for a possible cash offer for GMS at a value of US$0.09 per GMS ordinary share.

High voltage engineering specialist EDS HV Group (EDS), part of the UK’s leading marine services company – James Fisher and Sons plc, has carried out an innovative cable testing campaign for Vattenfall at Horns Rev 1 after the windfarm had experienced network issues.In a first for the offshore wind industry, EDS used Damped AC testing (DAC) to collect a wealth of beneficial partial discharge (PD) and tanδ data to interpret the condition of the array cables and subject the entire array system to a high voltage withstand test. Bumi Armada Profit Up 28.5% in Q1

Malaysia's offshore oilfield services firm Bumi Armada announced that its first-quarter net profit jumped 28.5% on-year, mainly thanks to joint ventures, lower cost of sales, and lower distribution costs.Net profit for the January-March period climbed to 62.21 million ringgit ($14.86 million), compared with a 48.42 million in the same quarter a year ago, said a stock exchange announcement.However, its revenue fell by 18.1% to RM491.61mil from RM600.34mil a year ago. VA Offshore Wind: A Strong Foundation

Virginia officials have established a well-planned, extensive strategy to build out an offshore wind industry, including wind towers for electricity generation and the supply chain to support that extensive infrastructure and operations.
