Fire Erupts at Exxon's Baytown complex; 37 Hurt

Exxon Mobil Corp said it was fighting a fire that erupted on Wednesday at its Baytown, Texas, refining and chemical plant complex injuring 37 people and sending nearby residents indoors.As many as 37 people were being treated for non-life threatening injuries amid efforts to put out the fire, according to Exxon spokeswoman Sarah Nordin. Available air monitoring information showed "no adverse impact at this time," she said.More than three dozen people were treated for minor burns, none requiring hospitalization, said plant manager Jason Duncan in an afternoon media briefing.

South Africa Seeks Partners for Gas Power Plant, Solar Parks

South Africa's department of energy is seeking private investors to partner in the development of a 600 megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plant and three solar parks in the Northern Cape province, according to a newspaper ad placed on Wednesday. General Electric, fresh from taking on the offshore wind business of rival Alstom, is positioning itself in Germany's expanding offshore wind sector and looking at eastern Europe. Technip Pipes for Libra Pre-salt Field

Technip was awarded a substantial(1) contract from Libra Oil & Gas BV, a consortium led by Petrobras Netherland BV (40%) and partners: Shell (20%), Total (20%), CNOOC (10%) and CNPC (10%). The project includes the supply of flexible pipes for the Libra Extended Well Test field, located in the Santos Basin pre-salt area, Brazil. This is one of the first steps of the Libra giant field development. This contract covers the supply of high-end flexible pipes including: 8" oil production, 6" service and 6" gas injection flexible pipes.

Technip to Supply Flexible Pipes for Lula Alto Pre-salt Field

Technip was awarded a major(1) contract from Tupi BV, a consortium composed of Petrobras Netherland BV (PNBV, 65%), BG (25%) and Galp (10%), for the ongoing development of the Lula Alto field, located in the Santos Basin pre-salt area, Brazil. This contract covers the supply of around 200 kilometers of flexible pipes and associated equipment, including gas lift, gas and water injection, gas export and production lines. These high technological flexible pipes are designed to meet pre-salt challenges with water depths of up to 2,500 meters and high pressures.

Evergas & INEOS Expand Dragon Vessel Series

Evergas has reached an agreement with INEOS to expand its new-building series of ethane/multigas vessels from six to eight units. In January 2013, Evergas announced for the first time that it had secured shipping agreements of up to 15 years with INEOS for the worlds’ first transatlantic shipments of ethane with commencement in 2015. Plug Power Revenue, Fuel Cell Demand Soar

Plug Power Inc's quarterly revenue more than doubled, beating the average analyst estimate, helped by a rise in demand from customers including Wal-Mart Stores Inc, which uses its hydrogen fuel cells to power forklifts. Shares of Plug Power, which also turned a net profit for the first time due to a gain on stock warrants, rose about 7 percent to $6.23 in premarket trading. The company said it deployed its first hydrogen fuel cell unit at a Wal-Mart site in the second quarter. Wal-Mart has placed orders for such units at seven sites.

Vestas Wind Systems has received an update of the type certificate for its V52-850 kW wind turbine from GL Renewables Certification (GL). Vestas Wind Systems expanded its manufacturing portfolio for the V52 wind turbine to its hubs in China. The type certificate has been updated and now includes production of this wind turbine type in Vestas' new manufacturing facilities in China. The Type Certificate confirms that the V52 wind turbine complies with the requirements of the International Standard regarding design, power quality and verification of the load assumptions.
