Lebanon Postpones Offshore Licensing Round Again

Lebanon has again postponed the deadline for the submissions of applications for its second offshore licensing round, citing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the decline in oil prices.Lebanon had in January postponed the deadline from January 31 to April 30 to allow international firms more time to pursue administrative, technical and financial preparations for the round.

Lebanon 2nd Offshore Licensing Announced

The Ministry of Energy & Water in Lebanon together with the Lebanese Petroleum Administration announced via their website the recommended blocks for bidding during the Lebanese 2nd licensing round for hydrocarbon exploration offshore Lebanon.LPA has recommended 4 blocks for the upcoming 2nd licensing round, which is expected to start in early 2019. The recommended blocks are 1, 5, 8 & 10.

Lebanon Begins Offshore Oil & Gas Exploration

Lebanon's search for its first oil and gas reserves began on Tuesday after authorities approved an exploration plan submitted by a consortium of France's Total , Italy's Eni and Russia's Novatek. Energy and Water Minister Cesar Abi Khalil also said in a televised statement that Lebanon hoped to launch a second offshore licensing round by the end of 2018 or early 2019.

Lebanon Extends Offshore Oil Bid Deadline

Lebanon's energy ministry has extended a deadline for bids in its first licensing round for offshore oil and gas exploration by four weeks to Oct. 12, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Friday. Lebanon relaunched the licensing round in January after a three-year delay due to political paralysis at home. The original deadline for pre-qualified companies to submit their bids for exploration and production was Sept. 15.
