First Vessel Due to Pump Angola's Kaombo Oil Block Heading to Africa -Total

The first vessel that will pump and store oil for Angola's 230,000 barrel per day Kaombo project is en route to the West African nation, operator Total said on Thursday. The Kaombo oil block will produce its first oil this summer, Total said. Once it is fully up and running, it will add roughly 14 percent to the OPEC member nation's average 2017 output of 1.632 million bpd. The Kaombo Norte floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel left Singapore earlier this week, Total said. The vessel has a capacity to pump 115,000 bpd, half the oil block's eventual production.
FUGRO Provides Offshore Survey at Flagship Angolan Project
Fugro is to provide offshore survey and positioning services at the Kaombo oil development offshore Angola. Under a contract awarded by Technip, Fugro will provide offshore deepwater survey and positioning services to a total of seven installation vessels and construction support vessels. The number of vessels as well as the stringent schedule for the work requires complex simultaneous operations. Described by operator Total as ‘a new frontier in Angolan oil and gas,’ Kaombo is a landmark project that presents significant geological and technical challenges.
'Selfish' Oil Firms Relish New Production Despite Glut
New fields to add 3 mln bpd of oil in 2016; could delay market rebalancing. As oil firms scrap dozens of billions worth of mega projects essential for supplies in decades ahead, fresh output from huge fields already being developed is set to weigh for many more months on an oil market struggling to shake off a glut. A collapse in oil prices over the past 20 months to below $30 a barrel has taken a heavy toll on production around the world, reversing spectacular growth in U.S. shale oil and halting plans to develop costly and complex fields deep in oceans or treacherous seas such as the Alaska Arctic.

Total's Major African Projects Safe from Oil Collapse Cuts
Total's major oil and gas projects in Africa will not be stopped by the sudden fall in crude oil prices and will help the French company meet its long-term production targets, a top executive said on Tuesday. Total has bet on a string of African projects such as Egina in Nigeria, Kaombo in Angola and Moho in the Republic of Congo to help it boost production to a target of 2.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2017. These are west African projects in deep and ultra-deep water -- an area where Total is a self-proclaimed specialist but that require costly technologies.
