The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) said on Thursday it issued a rule to improve pipeline operational safety, including a requirement for faster notification following a spill. U.S., Enbridge Reach $177 mln Settlement After 2010 Oil Spills

The U.S. Justice Department and Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. units of Enbridge Inc reached a settlement under which the pipeline company will pay $177 million after a 2010 oil spill that released crude oil in Michigan and Illinois, Enbridge said on Wednesday. Nexen Apologizes for Oil Sands Spill, Cause Unknown

exen Energy apologized on Friday for an oil sands pipeline leak in the Canadian province of Alberta that is one of North America's largest-ever oil-related spills on land, and said its clean-up crews were working around the clock. The subsidiary of China's CNOOC Ltd said it is still trying to find the root cause of the leak in the pipeline, which was new and installed last year. Enbridge Settles 2010 Michigan Spill for $75 mln

Enbridge Energy and its affiliated will pay $75 million to settle a 2010 oil spill into Michigan's Talmadge Creek and Kalamazoo River that dumped 800,000 gallons of oil, state officials said on Wednesday. "The agreement will finalize cleanup and restoration requirements for areas affected by the spill," that stemmed from an Enbridge owned and operated pipeline, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant said in a statement.
